    Purple VL 2000

Pretty neat/odd piece of history. Would love to rock this thing but not at $175

Yeah that’s crazy. I don’t think I payed more then $20 for a revvy. This reminds me I want to dye a clear one I have purple for a friend that cracked his purple shell.

I tried this with a bot of hot water and a whole bottle of rit dye. Let one of the halves sit on the bottom to long and it warped from the heat. Didn't come out that purple.

Also i was really excited for a moment then i saw it was the older matte colored ones. Then i saw the price, crack pipe. I want the translucent purple shells. If i had the cash, I remember someone on the old site offered me one.

You got to use Rit “Synthetic” Dye it don’t take as much heat to change them. Maybe I will to a write up on how to. You can do clear 10 round tubes to. I’ve done a bunch of clear proflex and even a yellow to burgundy proshield.

I would want to see this write up. If it can be done id love to try again myself. Id especially like to see how the revy shells come out.

Looks like the same guy also has s NIB Olive VL2000 for sale at the same price point. A neat find for a collector, but over my limit. $60 and I'd consider it for a period build.

As a side note: here is a clear vl2000 (granted "used" not NIB) with a realtree neoprene cover for $45. That's much more of a buy price imho, especially if you want something "period correct" for a build.

And $175. Where did this seller pull this price from?

So the translucent ones were made with a cheaper plastic that shattered all the time. the original VL ones (which it looks like the ebay ones are) were made from this tupperware like material that was super durable. I still have two that I purchased back in 1991 that I use on a regular basis. They are unstoppable. So when you think that I have been using it for around 30 years the price seems that much better. I think I paid in the $20-$30 range when they came out in the early 90's.

Probably just working that "new in box/vintage" angle. VL2000 and Revolutions aren't in the same boat here.

The VL2000 was the first, fully contained, commercial, agitated loader (yes there are vl90 motor kits, and you can get a neoprene cover). These things are simple, you have a RC car motor/gearbox and a directly wired 9v battery, rotating a small two blade paddle when the IR eye isn't being blocked by a ball.

Revys, upped that game with a voltage regulated board to step down 18v to 12v to not burn out the motors (previously you could add another 9v in series to a VL2000 with a battery door extension called the "Shredder", it just burnt out the motor after a while), and added four blade paddles (over simplifying here, as there are generational boards, X-board, Y-board, Empire sound, etc).

                      [random VL hopper rant off]

So, there is a bit of value in the early collector, "period correct" build aspect, and some extra value for the color/clear/marble/camo models, but I just don't think there is $175 of value. I like my black VL2000 I use on my 95 cocker, but I managed to pick it up for $20-ish?

what revys has eyes? I know the about the constant agitation models, the sound activated models, and the angels with the intelifeed. But I didn't know they
                        made them with eyes.

VL2000 has eyes, no board options as there is no "board". Pretty much every Revolution, by default, was IR eye. Anything that was not IR, was an upgrade after initial release.

Here is a pic from Warpig, of a Revolution, as reference. The collar in the neck is the break beam IR eye that triggered the motor.
