Aw, he says it won't hold air.... Can't these guys test the guns before they ship them out?!?

Approximately a million years ago, a then-buddy of mine picked up a 'Cocker, and then had a friend of his do some milling on it. As I recall, it was something like one of those "Smithy" 3-in-1 machines, and something happened- like it slipped out of the clamps or something- and ended up with a big gouge. He ordered a new body from WGP, while the friend declared he could fix it.
Said friend proceeded to TIG weld over the damage, in preparation for milling it back to shape.
In his defense, he was a much better weldor than machinist- good hot welds, nice penetration, etc.
The heat, however, turned the anno turd-brown, warped the body badly, and a blob of overpenetration made it so you couldn't fit a bolt anymore, even if the body wasn't warped.
He gave it to me, who was a then very new and inexperienced machinist, but my skills at the time were not up to the task of trying to repair that wreckage. I eventually milled it in half- completely, not partially as shown above- and over the years, that has actually been a very handy piece, to check for spacings and wall thicknesses and such.
Less so these days, as it was a pre-2K body, but a number of the dimensions are still the same.

I’m pretty sure I have a millennium milled away like this hiding somewhere in the garage. The cutaway bodies are super neat to look at for sure. I can see how they would have been instrumental in early tinkering daysComment
