I thought it was crazy at $300-$500, and this one just popped up for $900? Are these seriously that rare and desirable? https://www.ebay.com/itm/188225885711
Anchor bias --- never use LIST prices to gauge value.
Here's two screenshots:
- a random distribution snapshot of actual sold listings for SANDANA, condition=USED, past year, $33+
- Same filters, sorted by price sold.
I would describe pattern as very active $100-300 and thins out quick above that, the $300+ listings are exceptional pieces.
also seems to me there's a lot of deviation for similar items.
HandmadePaintball has some super rare sandana Test material and has sold numerous $1000+ bands and goods on many occasions .
cool to see that stuff in person, but definitely not
something i could ever justify buying
Is it…? “Cool to see in person”? Why? What is supposedly so cool about these headbands?
I didn’t even know there were cool/uncool headbands. I thought all headbands fell into pretty much the same category. Who is Sandana anyway? Where does this shit even come from? Do they make things other than headbands? Who wears headbands anyway? Hulk Hogan, bikers, John McEnroe, Axel Rose…anyone cool?
VenomWear/Sandana is one of the oldest paintball specific soft goods brands from the days of Sumo Marketing, Renegade, Unique, ect.....
Their patterns are iconic (Flying Skulls, Snake Stripe) and the colors and original jerseys,
pants, headwraps , pod packs and head bands were all USA made.
Since they are seen as "OG AGG", a huge part of the speedball community dictates the market on the most common sandana products still in circulation:
Headbands. There has been enough
demand that the brand has revamped production and promoted "limited release" colorways that command premium prices among the diehard collectors.
In the areas i go to for paintball, headbands and headwraps are extremely popular and everyone wants something uncommon or matching the rest of their gear. HandmadePaintball is one of the very few folks actually licensed by Sandana to sell their products and all of his stuff is actually made by him, he only sources the fabric from Sandana. In many cases,
he is the only retailer with access to one-off
colorways from the orignal "test prints" .
I think all of that is extremely cool.
and as mindblowing it is to see what the value of some of these "scraps" is, its awesome to see how happy folks are to own his pieces.
Agreed. I ended up with a mask with a sandana strap on it and didn't even know until someone pointed it out to me. Don't even wear it, lol. I could care less. I guess the straps aren't worth much anyways compared to the headbands.
Is "Life's a Beach" label surf/skate(?) shorts from the same cloth designer/artist? I had some cool looking skulls material back in the mid/late 80's. That looked very similar to the Sandanas brand material.
Edit: ok, found a similar pair. Time to make some head bands.
So it’s nostalgic for asbo speedballers? That’s not cool at all. You’re saying this is for assholes. The kids whose dads owned dealerships and overshot everyone with $1200 Mags in 1999 and now tailgate me in Cybertrucks? Those people?
i think the demographic expands beyond some douchebags you had personal issues with back in the day.
headbands are just another piece of gear. if you go looking for the collector's scene, youre bound to find prices that dont make sense from the outside looking in.
Colby is someone i greatly admire, partially for his vast knowledge when it comes to oldschool paintball gear and i greatly respect his hard work and skill in crafting gear that commands premium prices.
