Still don't understand the hate for the V2 eye pipes.. the V1's (from the DM7 and PM8) have a super weak spot in the because the detent isnt integrated like it was on the later versions
Yeah they get weird and break, but it's in exchange for never having breech wear, and dye restocks them more often than they do rubber parts

Yeah they get weird and break,
Breach wear is aesthetic broken eye pipe will prevent the marker from working
Also I really don't like the idea of having to stock a specific part in my parts kit because I'm expecting it to break at some point. If I were to run a budget for everything I do in paintball it would really annoy me to have a budget line be for the eye pipes because it's just not necessary if dye were to design the markers better
I have a dm6 with a perfect breach and I've never spent a penny on an eye pipe. So dye is capable of doing it but they have essentially been designing markers with no regard for long-term use. If it will survive the current tournament season that's good enough push it out the door.
And yes dye socks them now, but let's say their next generation of markers doesn't use it anymore, how long before dye stops producing them?

If dye stops producing the eye pipe, it's just a matter of time before that dm becomes a paperweight.
As a comparison, I have a vanguard creed. Vanguard basically went out of business in 2013, but I can still get LPR Schrader valves, how? Because vanguard used a standard tire Schrader. That's smart design.
Yes, there's other parts on it, like the board and grips that I can't really get (used market sure but not new) but it's now 11 years since vanguard has been around and I'm still running it without issue.
If dye went out of business and there were no more new eye pipes do you think most people would be able to keep them going for 11 years?

people still shoot planet eclipse guns even though they have NOT had solenoids available for some of them for a very long time... I don't understand why you're up my ass about this like my opinion is wrong because you don't agree with it..Last edited by Tracker; 02-15-2024, 04:47 PM.

Also, I don't think "breach wear" was the reason they implemented eye pipes. I've never heard of that. I believe it was because they wanted to get rid of eye plates. They marketed it as an aesthetics thing - no eye covers makes the body look cleaner. In really it was probably just cheaper to produce a solid body without the need to cut an eye plate and thread a screw to attach it.
I loved my DM5 and my UL'd PM6 but Dye lost me as a customer after the DM8 (for markers, anyway. Rotor LTR and i4/i5 are great products)

my understanding is that they wanted their eyes to be self cleaning, so they use a plastic breech that the eyes can "see" through, and the o-ring on the front of the bolt is there to wipe is clean. the loss of the eye cover plates was because the pipes were excessively fragile as long as they were externally accessible (only available on the DM7 and PM8), thats why they were changed within a year to a version where the detent was integrated and the eyes were held in place by a rubber carrier to make it a one and done thing for everything, they seem to be pretty happy with their design, as the only thing they have done since is reinforce them
the lack of breech wear is just a side effect, not the motivating reason for the design
if someone could make a metal eye pipe with something to cover the eyeholes like a window that could still get wiped by the front bolt o-ring, then you could have the best of both worlds..
