I have absolutely nothing to contribute to this thread. Other than I'm a lazy bastard who HATES shaving. I just use a tri-head Norelco for 2 minutes before my evening shower. Boom, done. All you guys with the creams/oils/moisturizers/whatever put waaaaaay too much work into it for my taste. I'm even clinically OCD & I couldn't stand doing all that. 2 mins w/an electric = done deal.

I actually got into the whole routine precisely because I hated it so much. Once I got my routine down, it became less of a chore and more of a relaxing process with much better results.

Wetshaving is like stockclass. It takes time and skill but the results are worth the effort and quite satisfying.

Never thought of that, but you're not wrong. true wetshaving with a double edge or straight takes patience and time and skill but the results are well worth it.

I shave while in the shower...does that count?

I'm not a very furry person. I shave two to three times a week only because my wife hates feeling the stubble (even though you can't see it). I could easily get away with only shaving once a week. But, that said, I use a Gillette Mach 3 something or other, and a five pack of blades last me literally years. It's pretty crazy. I never noticed any pulling on the whiskers. I figured it's mostly hype.

I've been using the same Equate 5 blade head (Fusion knock off) to shave my legs for the past 3 years. Once a week, in the shower. I got to the last one in the pack, it never started pulling. It shaves fine.

My wife changes blades every two weeks. That's crazy.

I mainly use an electric trimmer. For times I need a good shave, I use a Dovo straight razor that takes those safety blade inserts.

Blades? We don't need no stinking blades....

I have saved and spent, a very small fortune yearly, by not shaving or getting haircuts. I think my most current record is 2 1⁄2 years for a haircut. I will occasionally shape/clean-up the beard with a electric trimmer though...😉

How can you stand it? When my beard grows too long, I play with it too much. Or, when I sleep on it wrong, it feels uncomfortable during the night.

bellicose ...it does have it's challenges!...😉 Mostly just, liquid in the mustache and food in the beard. I do tend to, tuck my beard into my shirt, when I'm eating. Or also, I know, I need to wipe the mustache. Fairly quick, after a non-straw drink(#mustachedrips..#Realworldproblems😆).

There are many things in life that I care about. Shaving isn't one of them. If it cuts and doesn't cause unusual discomfort I'll keep using it. It used to be that the cheapest razor I could get were the 2-3 blade disposables. Last time I looked I could get replacement heads for a 5 blade razor for less - so I did, and stocked up a couple years worth.

One trick worth sharing is that you can "clean" (lap) the blades by running them backwards on the smooth part (i.e. underside) of your forearm about 10-20 strokes. Once I recognize that a blade is wearing out (~3mo) doing this will give it another 1-2 months of use.

Also, for those doing the science, I store and use my razor in the shower. I don't dry it. It hangs on the back wall but it's still humid there.

I've been using the same disposable Gillette for 9 years now. Just never bought any replacement heads. I actually got it from my best friend when he came to visit and left it, brand new, at my place. Replaced the first 3 heads a few weeks after fresh and I've left the last one in for the rest of the time.

I will say that I don't shave my face often anymore. I mostly use it for neck and manscaping. Then I wash it out and use some alcohol to sanitize it. Been running for ages.

I do use an electric for trimming my beard though. I think I forgot as a 15th birthday present lol.

According to them, the issue is that people don't dry off the razor and it oxidizes. They both suggested blowing through and drying the head well and it would last far longer.
This kinda makes sense. I'll replace mine when they look rusty looking. But, if I dry it a bit, then it might solve that issue?

              ive heard this as well.
there was even a product some time ago that you would run the razor on backwards and then wash/dry the blades. was supposed to make disposables last forever.
the idea was the same. remove the gunk and water from the cutting edge.

lucky for me (or maybe not) is that my beard grows like coral. 5 o'clock shadow...? nah, more like 5 day shadow.
during the pandemic, we couldnt have facial hair and "properly" wear an N95 mask. so the beard came off. this was only the 2nd or 3rd time in my life that i fully shaved.
since i only shave my neck and once a month, or twice at best, i treat myself to a new razor head as soon as the current one pulls. i also get razor burn easily. i mainly use the Norelco 3 circle blade gizmo every few days.

I have a DSC razor and several packs of replacement blades. I can change mine more often but I hate putting the new blades in and the way it burns my face. I prefer the older worn down blades. They cut just fine and don't burn my face as much. I have gone a year or more with a single blade and had no issues. My beard grows fast and if I don't shave every day it gets long. I recently shaved down to just a goatee and I switched to a new blade. My face is still getting used to it and it's been over 2 months. Once this one hits that point of not burning me it will work just as well and feel better. I shave in the shower so I wash mine out really well and that seems to be the key to blades having a long life.

I pay hipsters to shave me.

Being a fatty for most of my life I always kept a longer beard so you couldn't see the numerous chins. When I got in shape I took off the beard just to see what it would look like and... it's growing back now.

As someone that's had the opposite problem, take pictures at it's worst. Every time I think about growing mine out, I pull up the pictures from the last time I tried....and go shave.

Every time I’ve tried to grow one out, I’ve seen just how much gray is in it and shaved it off. In my case, a beard adds ten years to my look.

I've been using a trimmer like the trimming aspect of a braun electric shaver, and a https://www.amazon.com/Oster-Ac-T-fi.../dp/B00019DTOO on my face for a long time, so I have constant stubble. This keeps me from looking too much like a bum, but also keeps me from razor burn and other skin irritation. I would prefer to be perfectly clean shaven but the feeling of my face skin being all micro slashed to pieces really doesn't make me happy and I have tried many methods.

I am currently growing out my beard though which will be a first time.

@Jonnydread's hipster comment reminded me of when I went to a "gentlemen's barbershop" or some such wankery when I was going to college in Atlanta. My memory on this is fuzzy so you'll get what I get at this moment, and the truth is lost forever. I got a pricey haircut before giving a presentation in one of my classes and, as I looked into the mirror, commented when I realized I forgot to shave. The guy offered me a shave. Young, naive me thought 'cool, that's nice of him'.... Wait, "how much is a shave?" I forget the astronomical figure this guy told me, and I'm pretty sure I was laughing before he finished rattling off the number. The part that really lingers in my memory was my immediate, visceral reaction to say to this man's face, "Does that come with sexual favors or something?" Now, I don't know if you are familiar with the South, but even though this was about 8 blocks away from the gayest part of the city, a gentlemen's club is going to be old school. He did not see the humor in it at all. And that made it even funnier to me.

Pretty sure my hair was jacked up for that presentation.

If you're not shaving with a double-bitted axe, you're not doing it right.
