I have been using the same disposable razor for over 5 years

I made the mistake of buying a safety razor about 3 years ago. I spent like $60 on it. I immediately hated it, but figured I should at least get my moneys worth. It has been about 3 years, and somewhere around 100 blades which is like .03 per day for razors.
I noticed that a closer shave pretty much eliminates my 5 o clock shadow.
It's probably time to go back to the bic disposable razors.

About a decade ago, I spent two years as an LDS missionary. We were required to be clean shaven at all times. Being blond and not having the fastest growing beard (especially at the time), I was able to get away with shaving every other day. I always hated it, more just because I'd rather spend my time doing something else. Once I got home, I got some electric razor and haven't wet shaved since. I might shave once a month or so. Somewhere between a week and three weeks worth of growth just looks the best on me.

I have no intentions of going back to wet shaving. I'm perfectly content with the quality of shave I can get with an electric razor.

With disposable razors you can go very quick, and still get a good shave.

With safety razors you have to be extremely careful, or you will hack your face up.
The unnecessary weight of the metal handle makes it hard to control unless you're going very slow.
I have had razor burn on my neck for 3 years.

Not necessarily. I can bang out a quick and comfortable shave with a my stainless steel Feather DE. It’s just a matter of using the right razor and blade for your face and getting your angle and technique down. If you’re getting razor burn, one or more of these factors is likely out of whack. When it comes down to it, the right combo can be very subjective. You may just need to try different blades and/or a different razor.

Agreed with JonM. It's really funky how DE razors, blades, and soaps interact.

Electric razors are good for scars, moles, corners, etc. I have to use it everyday to prevent multi-pass mowing and choking, while it still misses finer hair.

I started wet shaving every other day during the damn-demic. I have about three hairs I can't get with a blade, but it will take the bristles without much fuss. I ended up with two different blade/razor combos that work well.

Either way, a "close" shave buys me about 1 and 1/2 hours over a wimpy shave. A sharp blade through some fatty soap is nice.
