This is how I feel. If I have a project that I want to do, I'll put the money into it. It's my hobby, I am supposed to spend money on it.

how far im willing to go is based on ROI for me,

i understand you'll never get back what you put into them, just because the anodize cost me $500 doesnt mean anyone is willing to pay that difference, so there's almost always some value bleed off, whether you like it or not

if im gonna buy something for $500 and spend $500 to turn it into something awesome, and that new awesome thing would net me 750 if i were to resell it? thats not great, but its not bad

why i never bought an inline cocker when AKA did a small release of them; the body and frame was 500, factoring in all the extra parts was another $500, you'd still need barrels and a bottomline and such + anno, cause its raw

instantly that project becomes almost 2 grand to do.. and at the time you would have been lucky to sell it for a grand (this was before cocker prices skyrocketed again BTW)

stuffs only worth what people are willing to spend on it, and if you're spending 2x as much as its worth to make it.. thats too much money to just light on fire for my tastes

When I pump 2 grand into a paintball marker project, you wouldn't get me to sell it with a gun to my head... you can pry my Ehm out of my cold, dead fingers. I don't have an Ehm (yet), nor have I sent 2 grand on any single paintball project. If I was an Autococker person, I'd feel the same way about one of those AKA inlines.

That's not something that I would dedicate myself to, just to turn around and sell... what if they don't take care of it? What if they don't use it? What if they change it? Why did I go through the effort to set it up this way just so some scumbag can pirate parts from it?

I can't deal with that sort of emotional worrying. Or at least I don't want to.

Who cares, right? They paid for it. You got your money for it. End of concern, right?

No. When your dog-o has puppies and you give them away to people... you are somewhat concerned about the environment that puppy is being placed in, right?

Is there a screening process for possible buyers of a project? How do you trust that they are actually going to appreciate your work? The price? Set the price to reflect your work, and then only serious people are going to be willing to pay it?

No. When the PS4 first out, someone bought one just to smash it in the parking lot in front of a line of people waiting to get one... it started a little suburban riot of pissed off nerds and soccer moms. Price doesn't determine treatment.

Yeah, I don't sell stuff that I pour myself into.

The other side to that is are you building it to display or are you going to use it? I don't buy anything to just sit on a shelf. That's why I put 200-300 in every Pimp I get. I am going to use it. I want it to work. I have no issue putting money into guns I will use, even if it is only a occasionally. I want it to work and perform better than when it was new. I appreciate originality and classics but I don't want to use them. I shave 2 lbs off my old Pimps by replacing parts. If I'm shooting it today I want it to perform and feel like a 2020 gun and not a 2003.

I traded for a 79 MG Midget earlier this year and I committed a sacrilege and put LED lights on it. Not ones that look like old style but are LED, no the halo rings and bright LED's you see. But I drive the car on back roads and the possibility of hitting a deer at night is high around here. In that little car it could literally kill me. I put projector brake lights on it and LED plate lights. I want to be seen at night and not ran over. But there are fools treating these little cars like they are 6 figure classics. Enjoy it and make it useful. I don't need it to be like a 41 year old car. I want to have the look and feel of one with modern touches. That's the way I look at older guns. I am going to use it here and there and I want it to work and be great. Maybe better than it was 15 years ago.

            Sacrilege? Oh, nothing is sacred.

Put LEDs in a Midget. Hell, throw an LSx in it.

Original equipment is only what you make of it. Matching serial numbers only matter to collectors, not the people who want it to work so they can actually use it.

Gut it. Cut it. Throw the original stuff away, so you can never go back. As Cpt. Cortez supposedly once said, "Burn the boats."

On my Pimp project, I am going to replace every piece I can... how much Evil Pimp is even going to be left? The body, frame, and grips? It's still my Evil Pimp.
