    How are ya now?

How's your day going? Time for a site-wide homie check.

I worked nights this week so I'm pretty tired, but it's been a good week. The cool fall weather has settled into New England so I'm loving being outside. Looking forward to grabbing some tacos from my favorite cantina on the way home.

    How 'bout you lot?

Iā€™m happy, the race season is over so travel drops to nearly nothing and house/paintball projects get my attention. Fall is my favorite season.

Same here, by far. I would like 9 months of fall with 1 month each of all the other seasons.

Trying to settle into the new location while dealing with the death of my father and my step mother having a stroke sucked has sucked the big one. Time heals all though right. On the lighter side my middle kid just got her GED and first job on the career path she thinks she wants to be on. Shes still a pain in my A$$ but has her act together way better than I did at her age. My youngest is in a new school and because he now needs to maintain a good GPA to play basketball is getting dangerously close to being an A student.

All in all it seems to be I'm on the far end of a real rough patch. Busier than I could have imagined and not on here as much as I would like to be. Saturday I get to try out a new paintball field so I'm really excited to play for just the 2nd time since pre covid.

I'm ok. Looking forward to paintball later this month, and managed to reduce some stress. Too many projects to tackle and just ferociously busy with work and the family. I'm realizing I enjoy a constant state of affairs and I think I'm getting more to that point. I finally got a desk for my office which is a great step to a comfortable space, and looking forward to getting the garage cleaned out and setup. So much to do...

The good - partner just got a new job, and she's finally making more than me. Still not what she's worth but should helpful with keeping our heads above water. Had an interview yesterday, sounds like the chances are good, will know next week. Excited to gather up the rest of this paintball gear. Got some modeling progress finally on the hamwar stuff. The bad - my part of base is at roughly 69-70%, and we're stretched thin trying to get bodies as, surprise surprise, pay ain't shit for Colorado.

All in all, head is above water, should finally start being able to work on financing a house
I could have sworn I had something important to put here...

Feeling better after this weekend. My sleep schedule is just trash lately and of course everything caught up with me at an event I was looking forward to.

My back is hurting already thinking about the drywall I have to hang in the next week in the new house. Then insulating the garage. It's going to be a ton of work to get the garage setup the way I want but I finally get my huge dream garage/man cave. Although already running out of room with an atv, 2 motorcycles, lift, tools, lawn tractor, etc shoved in there and need room to fit my RX-8.

    Wife got a promotion today.

I'm doing good this week, last week was rough. It's been a very crazy and stressful summer. In May was wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, she had surgery in July and started treatment in August, she just finished radiation 2 weeks ago and went back to work Tuesday. In August I had my wisdom teeth cut out, was almost completely healed and I got an infection in my jaw, had to be cut open again and stitched up. In the same week the drains backed up at my house and I went to play paintball for the first time in 6 years and before I could even play the reg on my tank blew up and blew the fittings off my reg and asa on my gun so I didn't even get to play.

But, my wife and I are leaving tomorrow morning to spend a long weekend at Sleeping Bear Dunes and I am very much looking forward to it.

I've been good. I started dating a really wonderful girl about a month ago, and it's going very well. School is also going well. Keeping me very busy. I was on campus until midnight on Tuesday. But I'm keeping up with stuff better than usual. Been really burned out at work this week though. I work from home, which is great. I'm busy enough as it is, so cutting an hour of commuting really helps. But I'm really struggling to get motivated to work right now.

Well I found out today I have a hole in my heart, that puts me at very high risk of having strokes, so I'm kind of up in the air right now. But strangely not worried.

      well, not really,
This all came to light from having a stroke on the 18th of Aug. (I am 99% recovered) All the doctors I saw said with my medical history and age I should not be having a stroke. That's when they decided to take a closer look at my heart. They tell me it can be fixed intravenously with short recovery.

Johnny, thanks for asking man. Seriously, I love this place and it makes me smile. Thank you for taking a site wide homie-check, you got your priorities straight.

I could probably complain about a thousand things that went wrong this week. But instead Ill focus on the positives. We had two people out for covid testing this week and they both came back negative. Right now I can take a deep breath until the next case comes along...

    Surviving.

My life has been all over the place since COVID. Career change for both myself and my gf, starting from the bottom, living at home again.

On the plus side I'm absolutely slaying at my job. I'm being put through training in 1/3rd the time they originally outlined for me. They're already talking about me going solo in a few weeks and that normally takes 6 months.

Getting back to the gym, finally. Excited to lift weights again. Oh, and I'm running my first ever 5k this weekend.

Today hasn't been too bad, though Saturday will be rough it's my grandma's celebration of life, she passed on in January at 86. I worked from home for most of last year but lost my job in January ironically enough like a week after my grandma died. I've been taking the time since on unemployment to really think about what my next direction will be.

Agreed, the time to really reflect on life has been a blessing, her celebration of life was very nice yesterday, It meant we could all come together to celebrate her and all the sacrifices she and my grandfather (who died in 09) made immigrating from Jamaica to Canada to give my dad, aunt and uncle a better life and by extension give those of us that came afterwards more opportunities. The talk turned to a big family vacation next summer so that'll be nice to go back to Jamaica ( haven't been since I was 5) and to just relax and take in not only the homeland of my grandparents but to more fully appreciate being a dual citizen (got my Jamaican citizenship through my dad earlier this year) Means I can more easily buy property, have businesses and if I want to do more schooling I can attend the university of the west indies (even via online learning) for the local rate rather than the international. I have been considering when I retire (which will be 30 years from now) taking my inheritance (which I know is coming) and buying a place down there to winter and then stay up here during the summers.

Sorry if I'm rambling, I just appreciate you taking the time to check in with all of us and give us a space to decompress etc during this rough time overall.

    the truth? ive been better

got fired earlier this month.. its a difficult thing to explain, the short version is, they think i have been sitting on my ass for the last year (WFH), and i dont have the evidence that they want to prove them otherwise.. and that was all it took for me to lose the job i thought i was was gonna retire from..

no disciplinary issues.. never even had a warning.. didnt even know there was a rustling in my waters a month ago,,

everything is different now.. was not prepared for this in the least.. its been really hard on me psychologically, question everything ive done and said for the last year, feel like a huge failure, starting to feel like maybe its not them thats the problem, maybe its me? (i realize thats not true, my co-workers dont understand it, my wife doesnt understand it.. anyone who is fully aware of everything says, "that was a written warning at best, what do you mean they fired him?" so i really do have to believe i didnt bring this on myself, but its hard NOT to blame myself.)

thats the day to day right now...

    as far as whats next

decided to look into updating my VA claim.. once that paperwork is filed.. ill probably be helping my wife around the house for the next few months, its her busy season for work, and its a part time job in itself keeping things moving in the house.. so, unless something falls into my lap for work before the end of the year, i guess im relegated to house-husband, depending on where the VA claim goes will depend on what kind of work i go looking for.

WE (as in my houshold) are self sufficient, wife makes more than enough now to cover everything, and her pay goes up a lot during her busy season..
we also have our health, financially we are in a really good place, we are in better health than we have been in the last few months, we are relatively young, and i have a lot of years to find another job..

Hey man that's some kind of wave, so glad you and your family will be okay in the interim. There's something to be said for being a house husband. My wife is the primary breadwinner in our house especially since I'm still partially furloughed from covid and I ain't gonna lie I kind of love it. Been able to get to projects I've been putting off and there's something extremely satisfying about your spouse coming home and being pleasantly surprised at how much you killed it domestically. Another great attitude at the end of your post, this is your time to evolve!
