Nauman Hussain, felon intro: "professional paintball player"... sigh

Random headline I came across today. First line in the article... ugh. Just...why? The same sentence alludes to his profession not being paintball... Is this even a someone that's known amongst the 'pro' ranks?

First and last. It has nothing to do with paintball, other than the guy happens to play. I hate when the media does this. Vilify paintball for no reason. Do they go after baseball when there's an assault with baseball bats?

      That was some more read.

I am not aware of what the law allows for in situations like this exact thing, but am aware that some states have the ability to 'delete' (as it were) a vehicles registration and tag if it doesn't pass safety inspection. As a 'for instance' if you have an old pickup truck with enough rust in the fenders to have holes in the state of Maine it has to be fully repaired and inspected, or removed from the road entirely. It would seem to me like the repeated disregard for this notice and repeat offense of operating it should have not only allowed for impound of the vehicle, but also loss of license to the operator.

What a tragedy. Had never heard anything about this before.

I seem to recall the other brother acting like an absolute turd when I saw him on the Go Sports web casts.

Nice to see some real journalism.

Just checked the NXL website and NYX is a pro team. Probably the only reason they mentioned paintball is because 'pro (name a sport) player' gives a more elitist portrayal than 'crappy limo company manager'.

NYX has been Pro for a while. They have money his daily driver is probably a $100k+ car.

Having money is a per-requisite for being a "pro" at a recreational activity.

Playing at the pro level is expensive having money helps for sure. There are people who pay to get there names on rosters. He is pretty good Paintball tho I will give him that. Crazy all the stuff his family is involved with. I don’t know him personally just from playing at the field. Some of my friends who follow pro paintball know him a lil better I would guess.

They mentioned paintball early on because there's a key part in the story later that shows just how detached and moronic this person is. After killing 20 people he played in the next speedball tourney:

"Nauman posted bail, went home, and refunded $1,475 to Axel Steenburg’s credit card. A few weeks later, he traveled to Kissimmee, Florida, for the 2018 Paintball World Cup at Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, where his team, the New York Xtreme, registered a disappointing 14th place."

Oh man, yeah, this kind of thing. Like when someone murders someone or is murdered and they happen to be a rapper the news always says β€œRapper slain” or something like that, even when they are totally unknown local acts. If they are a jazz musician or a drag racer or a furry they never lead with that.

I guess I've got minor heartburn with the way they present it as a central part of his vocational identity and then treat it like a hobby for criticism purposes. Paintball is mentioned to imply that he's calloused to go off and 'play' after contributing to 20 innocents' deaths, but if he were truly a "professional paintball player", it wouldn't be fair to criticize him for 'working' while the case is resolved. Even the worst people gotta eat, no?

They paint the whole sport by using the word "professional" when in reality nobody makes a living playing paintball except maybe Hastings, and even that's debatable. I'd rather they leave paintball out of the opening paragraph and then just refer to him as a tournament player when he goes to World Cup. Oh, especially since the paintball player is not even the central figure of the story.

...speaking of which, hell of a ride. I recommend reading.

As someone who has been following the NXL for the past year, the answer is YES, he is someone known amongst the pro players. The Hussain brothers are well known as incessantly trash talking assholes who are happy to flout rules. I'm not really a fan of any particular team, but I actively dislike NYX and always want to see them lose specifically because of those two bastards.

Their personalities make absolute, perfect sense in light of what is detailed in that article.

I'm glad that the article mentions paintball and names the team they play on. Let there be no mistake that yes, the Hussains responsible for all those deaths, those Hussains, they are indeed the very same Hussains acting like entitled dickheads at NXL events.

This video has some info on NYX. I ignored the commentary for the most part. Comment section is what you'd expect from hothead tourney bros who think they need to prove something.

Instead of press like this, the sport needs something like Netflix's F1 documentary. Hype the drama without glorifying the idiots, delve into the tech just enough that people know it's a real issue if something breaks, but focus mainly on everyone vying to win.

As a massive fan of both F1 and paintball for 30+ years each I have to say...good luck with that. There is no relation. The best thing paintball can produce is an alternative to those miserable house flipper shows.

Also, I do not like that Netflix show at all. Its mainly F bombs and contrived drama and I can't stand it...except when it shows everyone what tools Haas are, I have to admit that's a legit public service.
