    Anyone Here Cross Country Ski?

I'm looking to get into it. I competed in biathlon a few years ago in Cadets. I came into it from a shooting background so I spent much of my time teaching the ski background people how to shoot, and I outsourced fitting my equipment etc to them.

So now that I'm looking at getting into it I'm not really sure where to begin for equipment. I'm looking at doing skate skiing, but most of the informational videos I find are on classic. When I do find skate videos it's usually technique, which I'm pretty familiar with. Where should I start? Any good resources for sizing?

Also looking at possibly skiing at a neighbour's place, so it would mostly be ungroomed, with maybe a few snow mobile trails. I've only been able to find information about classic skiing on ungroomed trails. Is it possible to also skate ski on ungroomed trails?

Anything else I should look into? Any help would be appreciated.

Just here to say I literally ski off cliffs but cross country skiing freaks me out. I am more likely to hurt myself on the skinny skis over flat ground than skiing backwards downhill through the trees.

    That's just my experience
"but we all have electros and you guys only have pumps, this wont be fair"

    (chuckling quietly) "we know"

My wife frequently laughs at me because I can downhill ski or mountain bike the entire mountain but trip while walking down the sidewalk. Not sure what it is about the cross-country skis but I just can't stay upright on the darn things.

Memornix , Same here. I’ll be 50 this October and still skateboard in parks and ramps ,Play Hockey pretty well still but trip over my own two feet walking into the kitchen. Guess we use up the dexterity doing one thing and then it’s gone.

I went a few times years ago in Vermont. We were snow boarding at a mountain and saw they had a golf course that they rented cross country gear at. So we gave it a try and had a blast to where I went back just to cross country ski there. Maybe contact your local mountain and see if they offer something like that.

I skate ski sometimes in the winter. To be honest I really don't like the crowds at the ski trails so I've started just riding fatbikes in the winter instead. Skis are definitely a leg workout though.

closest I have to experience is watching my buddies mom on a nordic track when I was 14.
I never thought it snowed enough by me to make it a worthwhile investment.
