    Quarantine blues

So just over 2 weeks ago my girlfriend got the covid, and about 5 days after she got it, my 6 month ol got it (she's fine now) but now I just caught it last night. By the time my quarantine is over, I'll have been stuck at home for a month straight. Sure it's given me a ton of time to tinker with projects, but I think I'm starting to loose my mind. I just want to get back to normal and actually see people again. /Rant.

A month is rough. When I had it I was only down for 10 days and that was brutal. I was in a 9x13 room with a 9x4 bathroom attached. Luckily work was busy as crap, so I sat on the edge of my bed working all day/night to try to keep my mind off of it. I’d talk to my wife through the doors and FaceTime my kids at bedtime.

I definitely feel for you, it’ll be over soon!! Just try to keep your wits about you.

I must be weird, as quarantine sounds great to me. An excuse to not have to interact with people? Heaven!
          I can haz feedback?

Aw man, im lucky in the fact that I only had to quarantine for 3 working days. I still went a bit nuts. I dunno how you are managing to do a month.

It does seem odd you have had to quarantine while your family was sick. My work is adhering to the cdc guidelines so when my wife first caught it. I was told to work til I dont feel good. It took about 7 days for me to not feel good. Which was on a friday. Then 5 days after my positive test. I was told I can work, regardless of symptoms, but if I didnt feel up to it, stay home.

Needless to say I went back to work with mild symptoms.

As for enjoying quarantine. I get that too. I enjoy the excuse to stay home rather than go to Billy's birthday party, but not leaving the house at all gets maddening.

My girlfriend and I work together cleaning houses, mostly for elderly clients. There was no way I was going to put anyone at risk

That makes total sense, not wanting to endanger your clients is a big indication of your character man.

Well. On the bright side, you have to be almost back to free by now right?

...not feeling it I spend weeks normally not leaving my property with no ill effects then again I am an submariner that did several deterrent patrols in my younger days. Nothing like staying cooped up with 90ish submariners for 3 months at a time to sort out those who can and can not tolerate isolations. My ideal place to live is 2/3rds up a mountain with multiple mile driveway away from a public road.

By the way COVID just went through my household out of 5 people I was the only one to not get sick but stayed quarantined with everyone else. Son In-law asked me one day what was I doing while they had "the covid" thinking I was quarantined from work. I looked at him cross eyed and said "Worked, just like every other work day since I do work from home."

It wasn't the lack of people that got to me (i love being away from people), it was the sheer boredom.

I'm not (and never have been) an "indoorsy" person. I'm outside any time I can be....yard work, hikes, walking the dog, shoveling snow, building forts with the kids. etc -- cold or sleet or rain doesn't bother me...humidity does, but I have a small soft-sided, steel frame pool so it's enough to keep me comfortable.

Quarantine would have been a piece of cake, my life really wouldn't have changed in any way. Since I was positive and my wife/kids never got it I had to go into isolation (if they had it, we would have all isolated together...so back to normal for us). So I isolated myself in the bedroom (small bathroom connected) -- about 160sqft in total -- so my wife/kids could have the rest of the house. I had "everything I needed" -- toilet, sink, shower, and bed.

I have 2 TVs in my house, one in the living room and one in the bedroom -- the bedroom one wasn't even hooked up until I had COVID (my wife set it up for me while I was in the shower one day.)

We don't have cable (the living room TV has an antenna and gets PBS, but not the one in the bedroom can't pick up any signals), we don't have any gaming consoles, some DVDs but the DVD player was broken, we didn't have any streaming services at the time (that has changed). The only computer we have is my work computer, no iPads or Kindles (or whatever you kids use these days). I don't have any social media (except MCB). We just can justify the cost of all that stuff since we're never around to use it. Because of the isolation, I couldn't tinker with my markers, or leave to see my horses, heck, I couldn't even see my dogs!

I worked as much as possible because it killed time (and re-read "A Walk in the Woods" since it's my favorite), but even then, I had hours where I just sat, staring out the window....it SUCKEEDDD

Don't get me wrong, a life goal of mine is to become a hermit, but at least a hermit can pet his dog and leave his hut to go squirrel hunting or something.

What was stopping you from going outside. Did you actually get sick? I just got a migraine.

I got lucky All my outside activities didn’t change. I did hit the local trails later in the day less traffic but most of the spots I go there aren’t any people. I went out on the Quad, took the kids sledding and ice skating on my pops pond. My kids and wife popped positive around the same time so we all quarantined together. We still did outside activities who you going to get sick in the woods. Realistically If you don’t want to get others in your fam sick outside is the best place for you. Everyone is going to get it get over it and move on. Internet and news got the panic porn on full blast! One kid got a stuffy nose, other nothing, wife low grade fever back pain and headache. She’s vaxed and got it the worst. I got a migraine I took care of every morning with a hot shower. But 10 days off from the Clown Show New York State calls the prison system was a welcome reward.

Healthy and middle aged, realistically I got like 4x the chance of dying from fentanyl overdose then I do Covid. I don’t do H so I’m taking my chances and just living life.

Not saying go to a concert or throw a party. But a walk in the woods or going out for a drive isn’t hurting anyone. Hell if the ice was thick enough I would have went fishing. I be ripping up the yard in that jeep just saying lol

Yeah I have had a fever the past 2 days. Before that I have been outside. I'm not worried about my family getting sick as I was the last one to get it, and they have recovered already. And as for the Jeep, I let my brother in law borrow it so he can get to work because his engine blew in his truck and we are waiting for the new one to come in so I can get that up and running. I had an extra vehicle and he needed one. Otherwise I would be tearing up the trails for sure.

Quarantine can suck, I’m sorry man. My wife & kids had it all at the same time and I didn’t have symptoms. So while they were all feverish I did the cooking & cleaning and some homework help and took care of the animals. It was pretty busy. My wife just broke her arm snowboarding last week - about a week and a half out of quarantine - so I’m back at it again 😜

I’ve been a home body for the past 6 months or so since I made the change to a stay-at-home dad. I don’t mind it. I do get out when I need to, but for the most part I just do the chores, care for the kids & dog, and purge closets & stuff. There’s always something to do at home- you just have to find it.

One thing is I’ve been learning to cook & bake a bit. My favorite thing to make in the kitchen is bread. I’ve got my bread recipe down super well now & have been having fun tweaking it for different flavors & such.

Chuck E Ducky Well, no one NEEDS special equipment. However, a countertop mixer with a bread hook would make the process significantly easier. Hand mixers won't cut it. Of course, you can use a large wooden spoon, but you'll be worn out when you're done, lol.

I have one of those heavy duty Kitchen Aid countertop mixers. Outside of that I just use plain old steel bread pans, a large Tupperware & lid for the time in the fridge and a rubber scraper/spatula.

Before my kitchen aid I would just kneed it by hand. No need to brake a spoon

Hah, yeah. Forgot about the ol’ hands. Kitchen Aid mixers are so nice you forget about anything else. I actually feel kinda stupid now.

So I went to go for a drive today. The battery was dead in my Evo. After all of this bad luck I think I should go get a scratcher.
