Can y'all do me a favor? School survey about houses

As many of you know, I am currently studying architecture. In one of my classes, I have been asked to do a research project that is architecturally related. I decided to run a survey, gathering the public's preferences in single family house design styles. I'd really appreciate it if y'all could participate in the survey. It should only take 5 minutes. Obviously, the more responses I get the better my data would be. I figured it would also be very helpful to post here since a large number of y'all live on the East Coast, and I'm curious how locations affect people's preferences. And if any of y'all feel so inclined to share the survey with friends or family, I would be very appreciative.

You should put a notes box on each photo so folk can explain what they do like or dislike for each style. That way you can collect some data on the kinda loved styles.


Think of it this way, if the idea is to sell your designs to a builder. You aren't going to want the houses that are super polarized in this poll. You'd want the houses that are steady 3, 4 qs though they aren't grabbing at those extremes, they fit better for more people practically.


I took that poll from a function standpoint. I kinda wanna take it again knowing the reason for the questions.

Having a scale of 1 to 5 actually does pretty well at evening out the more polarizing. So far the only house that has gotten a polarized response has been the Queen Anne, which isn’t surprising at all.

I am more interested in aggregate data than individual data, otherwise that would make sense.

I agree. Also, am I supposed to answer on ONLY the outside look of the house, or am I supposed to assume I know what the inside looks like, based on the exterior, and base it off of that?

Hmm. Some of these styles have a more or less standardized floor plan, or have some more general characteristics. If you’re familiar enough with the styles, then sure you can factor in the floor plan. But generally speaking, I’m looking more for general preferences with the aesthetic than anything else.
