I'm trying to avoid the obvious ones this year: candles, slippers, chocolate...

Visit your mom, spend time with her doing something she will enjoy. For me my mom likes to go some place for a picnic and sit and reminiesce.

My wife is not my mom, she gets nothing from me. When my daughter was too young to do something on her own we worked together to do something they would enjoy. My daughter is an adult she takes care of her mom. My mother in-law is not my mother, I just support my wife in her attempts to please her mother. I have one mother.

+1 for the top comment, time spent doing anything is a far more precious gift than anything you buy. Moms won't be around forever, love them while you can!

+2. We used to make dinner for my mother (I say "used to" because we're not on good terms at the moment). But even something as simple as making her dinner & spending time with her is often the best thing you can do.

My wife and sister took my mom to a tea time with the grandkids (4). Was a great time and even my 9 year old nephew loved it. He got to eat treats and try different fancy teas. Was really special and my mom really liked it. Was for he birthday, but works for mother's day as well.

I gave my women a large (spam link starts here) assortment of dried fruits (spam link ends here) and nuts. It's an original option if almost no one in your family likes chocolate. My wife would rather resent me for the gift box of candy because she has been trying to lose weight for several years. So we staged a serious tasting as if in a Michelin restaurant, it was fun. Still better than chocolate, haha.
I knew you'd be back, you sneaky little spammer. You went and changed the color of the edited spam hyperlink!

Every year I made gifts with my own hands (DIY gift). For my mom, I tried to make something unusual that can't be bought. And when I got married and had daughters (yes, two of them), I had to save time to create gifts with my own hands. The best solution is to think of something that will be individual, suitable for moms and daughters and that looks like I made it myself or ordered it personally for them. Only gifts from SCAMSITE REMOVED hat can be personalized fit such requirements. I gave my mom additionally what she wanted. For example, a gift box and a sewing machine. My wife, too, but additionally her favorite bottle of wine.

I've got a pottery store sort of nearby. Take the kids, do some coloring, make a mug or window gnome, kids favorite is the meme poo ornament.

TLDR - how to force your family into pottery collection.
