Most Underated Comic Book

I have been thinking about reading some comics, but I would like something affordable and interesting. I don't care if it is popular. Some years ago, I bought the whole set of ROM off of ebay for cheap, and it was a great read (it looks like it appreciated in the last few years). Do you have any suggestions for cheap good reads? When I was a kid, The Defenders was really cheap and I thought it was decent.

I liked the origjnal Elfquest - I think 36 issues?

i can barely remember all the comics I used to collect. New Guardians maybe? Was good.

I remember Elf Quest being huge. I tried to get into it midstream, and I couldn't figure it out. It seemed to have more drama than most series.

I only own one set of comic books that a college roommate got me into stating they were underrated at the time: Preacher. Since then, a TV series popped up - so probably not so underrated these days. Regardless, it's a fantastic read imo.

What else are you interested in?

Knowing what other genres of entertainment you enjoy will help narrow things down a bit. For example if you enjoy a good old Western every now and then I would suggest Jonah Hex. Though with the movie not too long ago the trades might have started to go up in value (the comics are WAY better than the movie). They were pretty cheap at my local comic store when I bought a bunch.

Probably Sci-Fi or mystical stuff (like Dr. Strange). My favorite all time super hero was Archangel (followed by Longshot).

we have tons of books that called that but with DC marvel and image being the main company's other company's did not have chance.

I always enjoyed and enjoy reading the Unknown Soldier , Sargent Rock and Judge Dredd. So many great comics Out there but those mentioned can be had for not the much $

My first job was in a comic book store and I developed an eclectic taste.
I'm not sure of the availability or affordability of these, but they were my favorites.

Akira (probably pricey for all 30 some-odd issues)
Sin City (really, anything Frank Miller, especially Batman: Year One)

For a one-off series, pick up the 4-issue limited series of Superpatriot from Image. More or less self-contained story, though it helps to know some of the Image 'universe'. There's a follow-up, Superpatriot: Liberty & Justice that's just as good. Great story, amazing worldbuilding, excellent character designs.

Another option: Years ago, a friend lent me a series of graphic novels- 'manga'? I'm not sure of the technical definition- called The Dirty Pair. Ranged from early B&W art drawn in the 80s, to very well done full-color in the later issues. Very sci-fi, good action, lots of humor. Despite the name, no nudity or porn, they're a kind of international cop, and 'dirty' refers to how they get the job done.

I really enjoyed The Incal, the movie The Fifth Element was heavily inspired by it. Another one I highly recommend is Berserk, its my personal favorite and still ongoing, but damn is it an amazing journey and the artwork is just absolutely next level.
