Oh, 357sig is still a fantastic cartridge. Not for any logical reason; it has the low capacity of a .40 with 9mm+p+ ballistics but it's just neat and sometimes that's enough.

This thing is shooting 7.5 BRNO. It is a hot shooter and not like the 5.7 in performance at all. Its a 95gr bullet flying at 2000 fps out of a 5 inch barrel.

It's actually more similar than it is different. Small bullet going really fast (for a handgun) in order to be able to advertise big muzzle energy numbers. The reality is that it's ballistics are only comparable to the smallest handgun hunting cartridges like 30 Herrett which even has a much heavier bullet at 2000fps. Nobody would hunt anything larger than small deer with that cartridge yet the advertising for the 7.5BRNO markets it as equal to a 44 Magnum which it very much is not.

Under about 2200fps you need frontal area to do wounding damage as the bullet is not going fast enough to do hydrostatic damage and therefore needs large frontal area to displace flesh/organs/ect to do its damage. Larger/heavier bullets also break bones instead of glancing off of them in the case of large animals. If you're using a small/light bullet it has to be pushed extremely fast to have it cavitate and do hydrostatic damage and all sorts of nasty things we see with rifle cartridges. I think the 5.7 comparison is apt because despite it being able to penetrate body armor it really has pretty pathetic downrange effectiveness. Same with the 7.5 but at least he bullet is a bit larger.

The 7.5 BRNO is a great cartridge for hunting small game but that's pretty much its niche. For anything larger than small deer you really need a larger bullet like a .44 Magnum or up or a faster one like any of the 30 caliber rifle cartridges that push bullets over 2500fps. For the hunter that is dead set on an automatic handgun the Desert Eagle pretty much has that market cornered but there's really no reason to have an autoloading handgun for just hunting. For human defense the 7.5 is just way too large a handgun with too small a capacity for size. Basically it's neither fish nor fowl in the gun world which is why is has been and will continue to be relegated to collector/novelty gun status.

Given that pistols and shotguns ONLY function is to fight your way to a rifle, I have a hard time seeing how this particular handgun offers literally anything new that every other pistol already offers. So, what's the point?

For that money, buy an STI Perfect 10... hi-cap 1911, 6" longslide, 10mm auto... only handgun you will ever need.

If someone else is paying for it and there is no expectation of reloading the brass, I love .357 SIG. I shot three magazines-worth through a SIG P229, which produced a ragged hole group at ten yards. Also, 10mm is awesome. Very versatile cartridge, although I prefer 135 gr. bullets driven nice and fast.

I've got a 30-06 Winchester for when I have time, and a shotgun for when I don't.

I'm a fan of the FN-FNX .45 though.

A pistol's easier to use for just about anyone than a shotgun, and, most importantly, it can be carried and concealed easily. I might get some odd looks going into Home Despot with my Benelli. Open carrying a pistol around here won't even get you a second glance.

If I'm out in the bush, I'm carrying some sort of modern or fairly modern semi-auto rifle, in addition to a sidearm.
