    Looking for COFFEE help.

I've been less active on MCB the past couple years. Long timers will remember me.

ANYWAY...spent time with close friends of ours last night. They confided in us that they are pregnant with their first. Great news...to an amazing couple.

We were also talking about coffee (as we always do) and in the course of conversation he just said that they don't have the money in their budget anymore for decent coffee. They've been drinking some older coffee that they've had sitting around their house....for YEARS.

So I'm looking to bless them. Rather than subscribe them to a coffee subscription....I thought I could probably get enough MCB coffee friends to help me out and make my own.

WHAT I"M LOOKING FOR: I'm looking for some people who have a local roaster that they like. I can paypal or venmo you money and you'll send a bag of beans to my friend. I don't want the all at once obviously...so I'm sort of looking for 12 people's names who'd be willing to take part. I'll contact you, one at a time...and send you money for coffee.
    Understand?

Anyone want to help me help someone?

Not local to me, but i get one of these every year. Onyx makes great stuff. If you can afford to buy them one, get one of these while supplies last.

I have a local Roastere here in Boise you can order online from or i can go there for you. I understand both of the pluses if you order online you can choose what you know they would like, where if you have someone here send them something it would be more personal from your friends here on MCB to your real world friends.

We are passionate about fresh coffee. That’s why Oak Cliff Coffee roasts in small batches and seals our coffee in one-way valve bags as soon as it cools.

                  Good stuff, by good people.

We believe that specialty coffee is for everyone, and should be accessible, approachable and fun. It is our privilege to find beautiful coffees and roast them and serve them in our hometown of Santa Barbara.

has the best decaf I’ve ever had. The rest is great also.
                    we order online.

So my wife LOVES coffee, and really loves good coffee, when she was pregnant and breastfeeding she had to convert to decaf. We tried tons of decaf coffees, and only one tasted so good you couldn't tell it was decaf. It was Rebel Blend roasted in Portland Maine by Coffee By Design (CBD). That might be a good early batch for them if they are looking for decaf options. CBD has other fantastic caffeinated coffees too. You can order right off the website.

Coffee By Design is a craft-roasted coffee purveyor from Portland, Maine. Coffees that taste great – and you can feel good about buying.

i never drank coffee until i had kids in my 30s.
I fell down the rabbit hole (as i do with most things of interest) and really grown to appreciate coffee.

ill have a k-cup now and cant believe i used to drink that... (but if i see someone enjoying a k-cup, i keep my mouth shut. its all about enjoyment and i let them enjoy what they like.)

when our 1st son was born, she struggled to get a hot cup of coffee. so we tried all different brewing techniques.

we tried a Vietnamese single cup coffee maker, pour over single cup coffee maker, k-cups, percolator, French press, cold brew (figured if she cant get a hot cup why not just make cold brew) and the classic drip coffee maker... (there were also some inexpensive coffee/espresso combo machines that did neither very well).

what she liked most was the classic drip coffee maker with an insulated carafe. this way the coffee would stay hot much longer than the glass carafes and it wouldnt burn from the hot plate.

i got into espresso based coffees and had a few machines over the years, from cheap to expensive. my favorite was the DeLonge Dedica. i enjoyed the whole process of making espresso but with kids running around and school deadlines needing to be met, it turned into a treat rather than a daily thing.

thats the long of it; for a short answer see below.

look into a classic drip coffee maker with an insulated carafe rather than a glass carafe/hot plate combo. also look for a coffee maker with a metal basket that you dont need to use paper filters with. (the paper will absorb the oils from the coffee and you'll lose out on some really nice flavors.
