Other forums that have come and gone

Having nearly lost MCB, it got me thinking about all the other forums that have come and gone....

Since I am a dinosaur, I'll go way, way back to 1990. I remember using LISTSERV for the UMaine Paintball forum. Once usenet became more widespread, it pretty much killed Listserv, and everyone started using alt.sport.paintball, and then later rec.sport.paintball. Those were good up until 96 or so. AOL connected into Usenet, and it became flooded with spam, making it terrible. Around that time, Pigtalk started. That filled the gap pretty nicely.

By around 2000, the large forums started. Like PBdogo, PBcity, PBforum, etc. They were nice, but they were mostly modern stuff, and by then, I hated pretty much everything about "modern" paintball. So you would find some oddball forums, like OGOG, VMempire, BEOG. Lots of owner groups forums popped up, and that was pretty nice. THey are all gone now.

Once MCB came up, and pretty much was just old guys complaining about the young guys... well, I knew I found where I needed to be

SpecOps and model98.net are the two I remember from my pre-MCB days. M98 net was incredible.

Not sure if it predates MCB but I believe I found it before MCB, the old IOG (Intimidator Owners) forums.

I started my paintball forum life on pbreview. I spent the first 2-3 years of playing writing garbage reviews for guns I played with once haha. I found model98.org in 2008 and that became my true home. The cool builds, the shenanigans. Kind of like a smaller scale, more focused MCB. It dies in 2010. I miss that place. I think I joined MCB in 2008, but didn't really start posting until thevery end of 2009. I was helping a friend fix a PGP, and was trying to ghetto rig a valve tool. Splatttttttt was kind enough to ship his across the country, along with all the necessary seals I needed. But it wasn't until model98.org really died, that I became truly active here. I tired 98og for a while but everyone there was pretty stupid tbh.

I think we got dial up internet around 95 along with a used 386 and AOL, couldn’t wait to see was this .rec and .alt was all about! Pretty sure I used Deuce22 first since I had also just bought a new Gotcha Deuce.

I have faint memories of PhOG and SCP, and spent a lot of time on SpecOps in highschool... and of course the ubiquitous PBReview. Never spent any real time elsewhere. Glad MCB made it through.

@Hp_lovecraft, were you around when paintballforum.com was hacked and deleted, similar to this?
We can essentially call that a dead forum now, too

ooo, we can actually tag people. That's neat-o!

I also remember my local store, TC Paintball, had a forum. I spent quite a bit of time on there before they went to their new webpage and ditched the forum.

Not an old one, but TechPB was an ok place for stupidity.

I do remember pbreview however I never spent time I the forum just looked at the reviews, which some were hilarious.

I started out on Usenet: rec.sport.paintball was the main one (TIP#1299!), though alt.sport.paintball had some activity too. Then jumped into WARPIG when it was a thing, and the Tinker's Guild when Doc started that one. I remember Have Blue's SASE and Automags.org. Then when I got into Tiberius guns there was the Underground Mod Shop forum... Man, hard to believe even though a couple of those do still exist, MCB's the only one I still hit up with any regularity. So glad to see it back up.

I remember reading an re reading the tech section of warpig.com. It was a big thing when spyder released the compact a and I still had my old full body spyder and a stingray (from kmart). I think then I did some reviews on the Nova 700 for pb review. Then a stint mostly in the marker mod section of pb nation. Then on to MCB and here I stay.

SCP, PhOG, the Tinkerer's guild*, PBReview, Warpig... vague memories of PBdogo and PBcity.
                        * before it became more about comics than relatable or useful paintball-related content.

Really glad to have MCB back. This is the only paintball community that feels like home.

Edit: You know what, I'm going throw in PBNation as well. There was a time when I think that site was doing good for the community. At this point, I consider them more along the lines of the living dead - the fast runner kind of zombie.

Same. Found some pbr stickers the other day, not sure I want to use em or continue to save em.

I started on my local forum, paintballer.ca. From there it was SCP and PHOG, then MCB. Lurked on Tinkers Guild and PBN.

I was pointed to MCB by a friend of mine, instantly bought two non functioning Intimidators, and was promptly pointed to IOG. Bought another non functioning Intimidator recently (hey, don't judge me for not learning from my mistakes) and noticed that IOG was gone. It was a good forum, though not as entertainingly quirky as MCB.
