I had to vote before mid October so I could still fit in the 21-30 bracket!

Been playing for 16 years now. I feel old.

There was a poll like this on the previous MCB. If I remember correctly, the 51-60 group was a little bit larger. Not that it matters, 'cuz whoever is here is whoever is here. Though I'd be interested to see if someone could dig up the old poll so we can compare.

              46.
the thing that I always found weird was in the 80s, most players were in there 30s. Very few kids, and it was common for fields to ban under 18.

i used to ride my bike to the field, and have to ask the creepy old guys for a ride home. Lol

it was seen as a “mature” activity. In the 90s, that gradually reversed, and by 2000, most players were under 20. It went from mature, to extreme, to childish.

now I’m sometimes the only adult that shows up.... and that’s just weird

I hate to sound like an old grouch but...I miss that. Used to be we (the 14-16yo kids) would save our lunch money to buy a bag or two of paint and sneak out to the field on the weekend to hang out with the "big boys" and play paintball. It was an adult sport with adult priced guns and adult level industry behind it. I feel we lost something trying to pitch the game to younger players who, aside from mommy/daddy money, don't have a dime to spend on the sport and will leave just as fast as their parent's money runs out. The adults that had staying power left because of the 15 yo's in flashy kit bonus balling everyone with their Ions.

When I started, it was old guys with the fancy kit acting like disorganized militia, bonus balling, starting fist-fights with each other on the field, and making fun of the kids with rentals and low-end gear that they could afford while mopping the field with them. I still enjoyed the game because they were entertaining, the game is fun, and some of my friends played. They drove a lot of people away with their attitude though, ultimately causing the entire local crew to dissipate and the owner to sell the field to one of the players. Luckily the new owner was cool and didn't tolerate any such behavior.

Crap. I'm on the half of the bell curve closer to "0" and I'm having this issue.

We were lucky & had a good mixed group of people when I started playing. (2003) Most people had Tippmanns & Spyders, even the adults. The ones with the flashy spaceguns were usually pretty chill & were good about answering all our questions and giving out info to the newbies. Sure, we had a few dicks & tourney players that took things too far during our local rec league years, but overall it was a decent group. Then the league dissolved in 2008 due to the recession & we haven't had much of a local scene since.

I've broken enough bones to feel twice my age, but gubment-provided documentation will put me squarely in the 31-40 range.
