The high top sneakers I'd used for ages finally blew out on me. I looked into trail running shoes but the ankle support was lacking and the prices were absurd. I'm trying to avoid most types of cleats as I found they're no good amongst roots and rocks. What's everyone else use footwear wise?

Under Armor Turf Cleats I found them to work amazing on any surface and they are super durable. Trail runners work great but I find the turf cleats to be more supportive and longer lasting.

I'll have to check those out. I'm pretty picky about the traction/cleat material but those look nice. How's the ankle support feel?

You can get them in mids to look up baseball/ Football indoor turf cleats. They are super comfortable tho, and I never worry about my footing with them. They are lite too.
Even on greasy Indoor turf you can still plant a foot and use your momentum to pop right up from a slide.

I searched shoe and nothing but old-school shockers came up.

Impactfour different section, but lots of great recommendations here: https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forum/p...89033-footwear

I'm searching for the same Impactfour
The army ruined my ankles so I also want the support, but with the performance of trail runners. I can compromise a bit but it would be nice if they were suitable for ICPL play as well. My go to has been adidas copa mundials with the astroturf studs, but with uneven terrain soccer cleats can get dicey for so I should probably wise up. For scenario play I don't necessarily need maximum lightness and speed.
My next challenge is I need a very generous toe box for my wide ass foot. I'm looking hard at salomon speedcross 6's since they come in wide. They're not quite a "mid" rise shoe but look more supportive than a soccer cleat. I'll be trying some on at REI if they have them. Topo and Altra also get mentioned alot when people speak of trail runners.
Hoka anacapa look very nice for a lightweight hiking shoe but pricey. They also used to make a "mid" version of the speedgoat but not anymore.

I picked up some Under Armor "Tactical" 1.5 boots....they're comfortable so far, good support, and I didn't notice them after 6 or 7 hours of play, so I'm happy with their lightness.
I did swap out the stock insoles for some better ones with more padding, which I do for most of my footwear I plan on wearing for longer than a couple of hours.

another vote for Merrells - I love their hiking boots, and love that I can get them in wide sizes. heh, my shoes go through a series of levels before they go away. When new they are day to day or use specific - for the hiking boots it is for hiking and rucking. When they get beat up a bit they cascade down to tier 2 . . . for hiking boots its paintball. personally I love running a really well broken in pair of shoes for paintball - they are super comfy and I dont care how gross they getOriginally posted by Carp

I hate high tops so I went with these:
SHULOOK Men's Waterproof Hiking... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CYXQLSX...p_mob_ap_share
They're more comfortable and perform the same as my $150 Salomon XD shoes. They're good for any type of paintball-------------

I wear merrel moabs with darn tough socks. Creeping, crawling, sprinting, scaling, swamping, snow. All solid performance. The darn tough socks are really the foundation of comfort here, can’t talk them up enough. BLachance75 put them on my radar. The Moab’s are comfortable and supportive, and they have a side zip to bypass the laces which is great cause I’ve been wearing western work boots forever and can’t be bothered to tie my shoes.

Was wearing a pair of old tennis shoes for a bit, then a pair of Merrell ankle boots. Finally realized it would be a good use for all my old Army boots!SL 68, 68 special, Pro Am, Pro Lite, Factory F/A, Mini Lite, SL 68 II, 68 Carbine, Model 98, 98 Custom, VM 68, Z grip Automag, Phantom(s), Classic Automag, Air Star Nova, N3 Hellion, Emek, Metadyne Phoenix
