Getting old

Not long ago, a customer contacted me to rebuild (O-rings and such) a marker I'd built for him years ago. He'd played with it for a while, then life intervened. Changed jobs, got married, had kids, etc. The gun got put away, 'til recently. His oldest had discovered paintball, and wanted to try it. My customer decided to have the gun fixed up, and pass it on.

I remembered the gun well, it was a fun build. (Racegun style mech halfblock 'Cocker.) That was just a couple years ago, wasn't it?

I asked how old the kid was, expecting 10-12. Nope. He was 21, just starting his second year of college.

I think he is one of the few folks on MCB older than I am. By the calendar, I mean.

Mentally? There are a lot of puppies & kittens that have me beat on some days.

Did something similar not too long ago. Ran into a guy I used to play with when I first started playing circa 2002. He was talking about his kids living out of state (who I remember coming to the field occasionally) - I mentioned something about them going to college in said states. His reply "No. They are 30 and married." I lost 10+ years somewhere along the way 🤦♂️

At one of the local tourney events a while back, I took a (staged) picture of the kid of one of the teams:



The kid's literally hiding almost entirely behind a clump of grass shorter than his marker is long.

I ran into him and his dad about two years back- that kid is now something like 6'4" and in college.

Which I found weird, since I, personally, hadn't aged at all in that time.
