I met the new counter girl at the game store Monday. Her name apparently is Sheridan. Is it bad that five minutes later I was going through BB gun & paintball company names to try and remember her name? (No, not Tippmann. Daisy?)

was making small talk with the cashier at a pizzeria. Brittany Spears - "hit me baby one more time" came on.
made a comment that i remember when this song came out and how it was real popular. some quick mental mathematics and i narrowed it down to late 90's / early 2000's.
to which she replied; "umm i wasnt born yet."

what makes me feel old is realizing my kids could be my grandkids, and by the standards of where I grew up (baltimore) I could be a great granddad at my ageOriginally posted by Carp

When I was studying at Karlberg Officer's School (Swedish equivalent of West Point) we were at one point studying the Bosnian Civil War of 1992-95. Some of my fellow cadets hadn't heard of it at all, some of them briefly remembered hearing it on the news.
I served there with the Swedish UN Forces... Most of my fellow cadets had no idea though, since I look a lot younger than I am. But yep, I did feel kind of old at the time.

I worked with a couple of Bosnians years ago that were in the war there. One of the two of them was a tank of a man. He had thrown himself on a grenade to save the other guys life (as well as some others) and lost most of the use of one arm. In spite of that, he fought on for several days afterward without seeing a medic because one wasn't available where they were. One of the few people this side of an MMA fighter that I have ever been respectfully scared of. Some of the stories they told were absolutely outstanding. Two of the hardest working people I ever had the pleasure of working with.

Some hard people... with a dark sense of humor. Loved my time there (in the 2010s, when it was safe).

There were a couple of high school guys trespassing and fishing on my property yesterday. When I was calmed down they asked my name. "Mr. Seymour," was my reply. Well, i am over three times their age AND they were on my property without permission. But that's the first time I have ever said that.

I think my first "wow I feel old" moment came a few years ago (2017) when during a rainout at my local PB fields summer camp, my buddy hooked up his N64 for the kids to play.
These weren't tiny kids, most were 13, 14, some were as old as 16. And none of them were holding the controller properly without being told how to hold it later on. They naturally started holding it by the two wing grips like a modern console controller. I had to remember that none of these kids grew up with this console, the oldest of the bunch was ONE when the console was discontinued...
Idk, just made me have a moment. Also I totally killed all of them at smash bros N64 and they whined the whole time about how it played compared to the later games, and I don't give one single crap lol.
