    Read about this yesterday! Amazing to see a video of it happening. The driver said in the article that the car could still keep pulling, but he just didn't feel comfortable going faster yet.
    Apparently the transmission is designed by a company that primarily builds helicopter parts, and the car has over 10 cooling systems in place.

    After much scrutiny, three attempts, and plenty of controversy, SSC is touting a new production-car record of 280-plus mph—and you can watch the runs here.


    I'd still rather just have a new version Acura NSX.

      To be fair, the new Corvettes decimated quite a large number of models that cannot hope to complete at that price/performance level. It's a freak of engineering that rarely occurs; the culmination of decades of nerdy engineers begging Chevy to let them make it... And my god is it something. I try not to think about it because I'm going to end up owning one if I'm not careful.

      Chuck, you're totally right. The C8 really came by surprise. Haven't driven one yet. Still, I will have a soft spot for the new NSX. There's just something so damn cool about it to me. Also a big fan of the hybrid drivetrain, but that will eventually be offered in the Corvette rumor has it. Interior of the NSX also feels good for someone my height, which most high end cars don't seem to accommodate very well. At least the Huracan and the Audi R8 don't. Just my experience.
      I suspect I'll own a C8 at some point in the further off future.

      Fair enough. I really like the R8 as well but the new NSX just missed the mark for me. To me it looks a lot like the rest of the Acura line. Maybe because I really just wanted a more powerful version of original version with modern bells and whistles.

    these high speed cars are meant to get brand recognition and to sell units. The Bugatti Veyron needed a second key to reach top speed and there were certain parameters that needed to be met such as the steering wheel could not be turned more than a few degrees or else the car would go back into "normal mode".
    They, Bugatti, also didnt post an official speed record since the SS300+ only went in one direction. The engineers claimed that the angle of the asphalt grain would destroy the tires.

    Zonda, SSC, and Koinesegggeesgehehjdblkajh, are no different. They take into account the wind, humidity, temperature, and many other factors before attempting a top speed run. Its pointless.

    but would i buy one if i could... YES.

    fyi, from what ive read, the SSC costs $1.9 million and has already sold out for the 2021 year.

    i still believe the McLaren F1 to be the grad daddy of them all. It was made to be the "best" a car could be; it just so happened to be the fastest.


    it was funny watching top gear BBC do a race between a beater 90hp sedan vs a lamborghini or something similar to a location in the next town over. (real world kindda driving stuff). the beater made it to the location 1st. ya' know, spped limits and crowds lol

      Turns out real men haul lumber, shingles, flooring, ATV's, and help their neighbors (who drive Prius's) move when they need it in their "massive stupid trucks". 😊

        Definitely depends on the level of stuff you do. I really enjoyed my old Tacoma 4cyl but TBH it got the same gas mileage (20mpg) and hauled less than half of what my current Nissan Titan does with a V8.

        I will agree to some level on what Zeta is saying though. I see lots of these "super trucks" which are just 12" lifted diesels with chrome 24" rims that do nothing but look cool parked with one tire on a parking block. Stupid fad same with "rolling coal".

        I have a 2005 GMC sierra that pretty much sits around. I use it to pull my camper, and to haul things on occasion. I could not imagine using it as a daily driver. The fuel usage is insane. I will 100% be looking at these 45-50mpg vehicles to use for anything else.

        Maybe, or rather, that’s the fantasy they prefer to live in. “I’m not a planet destroying tailgater, I’m an essential aspect of society.” Poseurs are never cool, not even when pretending to be rednecks.

        If your bed on your quad cab is mint and your tires are worn square from highway miles, I don’t buy the story. If you’re that guy who helped me move a TV with his S-10 back in 2009, well, hi! Thanks again, I still have that TV, it’s great. If you’re the dude who just passed me in the merge lane 300 feet after it disappeared at 15mph over the speed limit...well I hope the only person you kill is yourself.

      sounds like there's a back story there... and ill agree, with a quarter mile merge lane, why do you have to wait till the very end to cut over.

      Back to the SSC though, and with the help of google maps i found out that if i had the SSC and was able to drive full speed to work, it would take the same amount of time for me to drive across state lines to work (normally 48min) as it would for me to walk across the parking lot (8min) at my job.
