kukri or khukuri knives?

Is the first one hand forged? If it's a better metal than the ebay one it's probably worth the price. A well forged knife can be better quality than mass produced ones... it can also be terrible if it's forged badly :P

You pay a premium for hand crafted.

I splurged and bought myself the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri years ago.
It's heavy, but when you use it, it makes perfect sense and cuts like you wouldn't believe.

If i were you, i would pick up a cheap one to get used to it and see how you like it before spending money on a really nice one.

If you want it just because or need to cut brush, sure. Although, in my experience, a bolo machete is better for the latter. For any other use, they're not particularly handy.

This is right up my alley because I have a small collection of Nepalese kukri. That one pictured is a low quality Indian made kukri, and I wouldn't pay over $20 for it. If you just want to try out the basic design, and don't care if it's an authentic Nepalese made knife, you can get something like the Ontario Kukri or Condor Heavy Duty Kukri. They both will be far better than that one you were looking at and don't costs an arm and a leg. The Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri that Sethzilla mentioned is considered one of the best non-Nepalese kukri made, but it is pricier than the other two I mentioned.

If you want a real authentic, high quality, hand made Nepalese kukri, there are a few companies to buy from that stand above the rest. You should consider these makers:

There are other good makers, but these ones are consistently ranked as the top tier. All of them traditionally had a wait time for the knife to be made and shipped from Nepal, but Covid has unfortunately increased that production time considerably. It would be a good idea to contact the company directly, wither email or Facebook, and get a fair estimate of when your kukri will get to you if you choose to go with one of these companies.

I'm glad that your happy with purchase. Maybe my experience was rare but I ordered one from khukuri house 8 years ago and received garbage. I have since ordered three from Himalayan Imports that are beautiful! If you order from knife forums you can get "blems" for a great discount! Yandu (the owner) is wonderful and has great customer service! Highly recommend
