    hows the aquarium coming along?

i was feeding my oscar shrimp and my 7yo got upset because i was feeding the fish "his food".
tbh that fish has eaten his food before.
    chicken nuggets mainly lol

Man Oscars are too cool, one that eats chicken nuggets is that much cooler.

you'll know early on if the oscar dont like the food.
hell chew it up and spit it all out if he doesn't like it. if he likes it, hell keep it down.
he's also fed on a regular basis and is not eating out starvation. he's very open as to what he likes and does not. lol

      Update:

Tank cycled and I added six Giant Danios.
Went back next week and the store employee was incredibly concerned that my tank wasn’t at all cycled.
well… when I ran the tubes through my wall to put the filter on the back side (of basement), my cousin helped and forgot to turn the valve back on in one half. (No clue how filter didn’t burn up.)

I took three Chinese Algae Eaters (CAE) from him to help me clean my now messy tank. They did their thing and honestly, they’re really awesome. I sit and stare at them and they come up and stare back… unfortunately, research has led me to realize that they will NOT work with the Cichlids I’d hoped to stock my tank with. So, they may get rehomed. Unless I change my mind and go with some sort of community tank- but it would take a little bit of change.

The tank seems to remain cloudy, and I’m not sure why yet. I won’t have time to look into it this week as I’m working a bunch of OT.

I added a smart plug for the light to go on and off automatically. Moved the tank to a different spot, that sucked.

      And as of today….

Added a bunch more rock, would actually like a few more to close some gaps.

most all aquarium pumps are magnetic drive. if the impeller is stuck/stopped, the actual electric motor is still allowed to rotate.
the cloudiness can be particulate or a bacterial bloom. should go away as things settle in.

        tank is looking good.

Tarsun2 Good to know. It's a Fluval FX4, so I didn't skimp on filtration. (Black Friday Deal)
As for the cloudiness, I suppose it could be right, but it's been pretty steadily cloudy since I got it up and running. It's been over a week now since I figured out the filter issue and put the CAE in, so Im not too sure what it is. It's def. a little extra cloudy in picture due to the rocks JUST being placed in before taking it. Ill report back in a week once things settle and the water is retested. Hopefully, this weekend, I can start getting some fish!

Looks good it will clear up as it settles in. I will have to take a picture of my setup. I had to take a bunch of stuff out of it because my Oscar has gotten so big.

The filter will clean all that up give it time. Mine looks like that when I clean it to.

Chuck E Ducky - As mentioned above, it's kind of just BEEN cloudy. We'll see though. I also think it's hilarious that we talk almost daily and you never cease to amaze me with another facet of your life. I never knew you had fish, let alone an Oscar. Haha

Yeah I will have to tell you the story about how I got the tank lol. It’s so big I had to have my cuz make a metal stand to support the weight. I tried taking a picture but the glare from the room is to bad all you see is my reflection. Tonight I will light it up and get a picture. He don’t like the light so I leave it off. He’s cool big enough to eat lil mice now.

I'm guessing the answer is yes, but just for the sake of being thorough. You do have a fine/water polishing set of media in the filter right?

Whatever it came with. Not too sure, honestly.
It cleared up some once the rock settled.

Yeah, most company's include it, black sponge with small doors or what looks like a white polyester pad. Designed to catch all the really small stuff as it moves through the filter. It's looking good.

I know nothing about aquariums other than seeing a few, but i can say it is nice to see someone truly taking care of theirs. I'm confident your fishes are healthier and happier than all I've seen in aquariums. Kudos for keeping it that way, cannot be easy.

minimag03 - I also know nothing. Lol. The main thing I’m learning is all the material on this you read is more of a loose suggestion and until you just send it. You won’t know. Lol but ty!

Does anyone happen to have some of the Texas holey rock?
the white ones in my tank. I think since adding my catfish, and removing one of the algae eaters, and lack of cave space, the algae eaters are stressed. I hate the mismatched rock though.

              OR,
give me your opinion on a matching dark rock between the other two white ones.

I've got a busy afternoon ahead of me, but send me a message tomorrow afternoon and I'll check my stash, I think I've got some that should do for you.

Did a 20% water change today.
              dechlorinated the new water.
same temp as the tank water.

Just checked on fish and things are looking bleak.
              My convict’s stripes have faded.
my green terror is basically black.
I used the at home water kit my secret Santa sent me and ammonia looks good.

The rest are kind of just hovering around the bottom. (Though it’s night time and that’s where they always are)

I guess now we just hope they don’t die and bounce back when I head down in the morning. things look bleak, but I’m a pessimist.

Update: They bounced back, they were just supposed stressed. Moving forward, I think I’m going to do less than 20% but do it more frequently.

you could always add some stress coat...
20% change isnt bad either and matching the temp is more than i do.

My Cacatuoides pair had their first batch of fry. Mom and dad are doing a fantastic job co-parenting for now. I'll be moving them to a grow out tank in 5-7 days.
