City Works Crew at its Finest!

Today we had a city works crew digging massive holes in our street. The street is narrow, so they back the large trucks up the road. Guess this drive was't the greatest..... note the pole is 100 feet from a corner where the road is good and straight, and the city very nicely put warning signs on both sides of the poles up the entire street. No power since 10:00am PST and they had to replace the entire pole.

They even had a flagger on site and about 6 crew members.... just no one to help the truck back up the straight road....

I work with heavy machine ops and fork drivers, they are bat shit nuts. Dude was probably taking a swig off his beer helmet while changing bluetooth from his portable speaker back to his truck stereo. As I am one of those 6 flaggers from time to time, I humbly respond to you, try, just try to find someone who will show up not fucked up and do it more than once. Where's my union brothers???

I mean, what, do you work for Microsoft Excell? Who gives a shit if 6 dudes are making a paycheck? It's not like your paying for it, unless your one of those " I pay for it with my taxes" kinda manholes.

But yeah, no excuse for dude backing into a pole on a straight run. Dudes gonna get shit for the rest of his career from those that are in the know. Honestly he's lucky that nobody got zapped. That happens and it aint pretty.

Yes, thankfully the wires didn't snap so the only harm was done to the hydro pole, the driver's ego and about 284 houses that still don't have electricity.

At least it was not another highway overpass.

I promise you in the world of people that drive dump trucks, City, Town, County, Territory Employees are usually not the best of the best. First hand knowledge here.

It’s also on the foreman. The street is narrow and maybe there was a parked car he had to pass, so he was watching the car instead of the pole on the opposite side. There was ample people available to help guide the driver up the road, they just didn’t bother.

Damn man, I drive a class A semi. 75ft long, 100k+ lbs and on a DAILY basis I put it on a tipper which gives me AT BEST 6" of wiggle room.

Backing down that street should be a cake walk for anyone who managed to get their license in the first place.

Unless he was trying to back around other machinery, this is pretty embarrassing

city crew dug a hole to fix my water pipe flowing water into house. it took them over 2 1/2 month to 3 1/2 month to patch the whole. but did really shitty job patching. and did not even take stuff to lay asphalt level it right and smooth it out right. just laid it down but only just heated it. but did not leave are so cars can not go over it. then spot they did on person driveway. told HOA they have to fill it in. just did sand patch on some grass and driveway. since did not want to fix it right first time

Spoke with the department supervisor in charge of the work crew. Guy backing up was trying to avoid a parked car, and smacked the pole while looking at the other mirror. City will do a big incident report and investigation into how and why this happened and make policy changes.
