    Pro Wrestling

I haven't watched pro wrestling in over 10 years. But I had my appendix removed ~3-4 weeks ago & was looking for something to watch. I was reading an article on Gamespot or IGN or something about something in the WWE & someone mentions the AEW. So I found a Youtube rabbit hole & found myself watching more of it. The shows aren't as polished as the WWE but there's more matches, less yakking & there seems to be a larger amount of creative freedom for the competitors. Again, I haven't watched pro wrestling in well over 10 years, and even then it was sporadic. I thought the WWE was boring back then, and I've read it hasn't really improved (can't say for certain tho). But what I'm seeing in the AEW is fairly entertaining. It really is a waste of time... But I'm still finding myself watching this cheezy, fake "pro" wrestling a bit again. lol

I feel like I'm really putting myself out there, given how fake/staged it all is. But if anyone wants to discuss it I'm game.

Used to watch WWF/E etc years ago with my son for the entertainment value. Also haven't really tuned in for years now.

I will say this. I live in the area where ALL of the "early" Atlanta wrestlers live(d). One of our good friends Uncle is/was Sgt Slaughter and was (among) teachers at the school where these folks train. Buzz Sawyer lived at the top of my street. Sheik and his daughter lived the next neighborhood over...Anywho, these guys train and work really hard to put on the show. Most of the moves they perform would seriously damage/injure/paralyze if they aren't performed properly. In particular our friends uncle can barely move anymore and he is only a few years older than us. MANY MANY of his friends and counterparts are either experiencing severe medical issues, mental issues, or are already dead.
    It's a show, but it ain't "fake".

I watched a couple blips of it... Nope. Not into the whole blood thing in wrestling. Way overkill.

I used to be huge into WWE/WCW back when it was more matches and some basic setup to make the reason for the matches make sense but I got out of it once the story lines got stupid. Now With AEW being more about the matches I find I watch a fair bit of their stuff. I also watch NJPW and TNA. Not nearly as much as I did say 25 years ago but more than I did say 10-15 years ago.

i gave up on WWE since want less wrestling and more talking and other things. for some reason WWE thinks better to have less wrestling more talking and when they do match not long at all. why like NJPW and AEW over what WWE does ROH does and TNA does. for some reason talking and short matches is way to got for them AEW try's to get all match up to 20min time or 10min lime limit for matches

I'm mainly watching AEW Dark on Youtube. I don't have cable TV, so I can't watch Dynamite, but Dark is stuff they filmed before & after they filmed Dynamite. Mostly B-list contestants & new talent with a few A-listers sprinkled throughout. Not bad for a Youtube-only show IMO.

I understand that, and likely so do the participants. At that point, it's on them & the organization. I was more referring to the stories & such.
I'm not really up on any safety measures they've implemented in the last 20 years, but I assume at least some things have changed for the better. Perhaps I'll look into it 'cuz now I'm curious.

Way back I enjoyed watching wrestlers like Bruno Sammartino and Jimmy Snuka, later I liked Mark Calaway (The Undertaker), and of course, Goldberg.
Then the whole format changed to a theatre performance and I kind of fell away.
I do know that it's as much real as it is scripted, those guys still put their bodies on the line (or the mat) more than most stunt performers in movies. If they start bleeding in the ring, it isn't CGI or makeup.
