          As someone who regularly machines tungsten alloys and has machined high levels of purity tungsten----this doesn't surprise me at all. The stuff is TOUGH.

          I have a rod of the stuff right now that's 99% pure, and was trying to cut it. Kept moving the tool forward.....forward....forward........why isn't it cutting? Looked down, and it had completely eaten the cutter.
