        Found it: https://shop.dyepaintball.com/pages/mxr

Looks like those eclipse guns I see at paintball fields these days. And I mean, everyone has them by the looks. Had a guy take his bolt engine out while we were talking onto the field to show me how it was tool less.

Uses double AA batteries? Heck yeah. That's nice.

It's a modern spool with some smart modern concepts and 3V electronics. Yep.

Kind of a meh from me. Detent is a nice update on that old idea. Seems lazy to use the DSR bolt release which is way inferior to the M3 style. Makes for kind of an ugly rear end too. Double AA's are nice but they're pretty late to that game. I like the grip change, no more weird hump on the single trigger frame like the DSR. No mech frame at release is surprising?

Feels a bit like you're getting ripped off when it's basically a slightly updated DSR and you'r not getting the cool tech like the screen and wireless charging the M3 had. Not lik any of that mattrs but same price less features seems like a hard sell no?

So the OG Matrix bolt design is officially dead too I guess?

          Rear screen > side screen.

It's not just an "updated DSR." The ARC-X, while still being a fill to fire unbalanced spool, differs heavily from the standard ARC, primarily the valve concept pulled over from the M3.

I'll take AA's over rechargeable batteries all day, every day.

Along with the new eye pipe, sealed breech, zero wire pinch point packaging, new electronics, and heavy emphasis on eliminating water intrusion...yeah, this is a major step forward for Dye regardless of where your loyalty lies.

The detent is the smartest thing they did since the dm6!

        fullofpaint

No that spool valve translates poorly to mech operation

The mech valve will be similar in design to the DSR's, obviously. It works quite well.

1700 for a mid level marker? I might be wrong that this is new mid level but it feel like it, it has a small screen like the DSR+, back like a DSR+, replaceable batteries(yay double AA), a cloth barrel cover not their newest barrel cover, I will admit it comes with 2 tool kits, a pwr clone barrel kit, and a usb C drive (holds dye programming software?). Not something that anyone here will jump on, but we are not the intended target rather the speedballer who has to have the newest greatest but even that might be a stretch compared to a M3+ at 1200.
I look forward to efficiency testing, sound testing and hopefully holding it in hand.

$1500 for black. It's their new high end, not a mid end.

I get meh vibes from it. But lets be honest...what can they do to make these markers better these days?

I am confused as to how anyone can get "meh" vibes from this thing if they're giving it a proper, unbiased and honest evaluation.

Man DYE styling has sucked for about a decade now. And this is just another example. Looks bland.

I think moving forward with the DSR/Arc platform is the smart move from DYE, seeing how it's more popular and frankly better performing than the M3. But I agree, making ostensibly small tweaks and throwing a PWR barrel on it doesn't justify a $500 price jump.

DYE actually put some thought into designing this one. It may look the same as everything else but it seems to be designed very well. finally a metal eye pipe, and completely waterproof grip frame.

Here's one of the guys who helped with the design of it.

TAAC breech system - the most common failure mode I've seen with paint is clipping. During the development of the MXR, I was pretty insistent on moving the detents up above the centerline, but any breech sleeve made that difficult because the material started to get thin. Leo in Taiwan came up with this system and I initially hated it, but started playing around with it and it actually actively pushes balls to the bottom of the breech. It's an awesome design and a smaller oring can be used for tiny paint.

Mech - the frames... you can run double trigger electro, double trigger mech, single trigger mech, or single trigger mech. The microswitch sits on a redesigned upper board and when you swap in the mech kit, a lever goes where the microswitch was - this class 1 lever can be moved to change the mechanical advantage you have on the pin.

Electronics - new solenoid and AA system as well as a (basically) wireless arrangement. The eyes sit flat on the connector board and face straight up. The breech is watertight and the light is reflected through periscopes that press into the body. The battery posts are right on this board as well. There is nothing to pinch between the frame and body anymore.

SLAP2 - the sled won't blow off and there's a filter in it now that is readily serviceable. Also, there is no need for a custom spanner to remove the actuation pin anymore - it's just an allen.

Trigger - no more funky adjuster cones and no more binding the trigger bearings. The trigger pivot pin now has a shoulder that it can bottom against.

ARC X - the bolt is similar to the DSR, but instead of having an oring on the bolt guide it has one internal to the bolt at the back. This allows better communication to the sensing area on the valve leading to more precise timing. It has a more crisp feel, but when one-handing it'll have the same recoil-canceling effect as the m3+.

Grips - sealed in screen cover and joystick, so the whole back of the grip is watertight. The screen is not the same as the DSR, but is an easier to read blue OLED that has done well in the Southern sun. The grips are easy to remove with 1 finger and should not rip like some other dye markers.

I honestly prefer the MXR to the DSR in terms of shot, stability (the frame is scooted rearward about .25" for a slightly longer feel), efficiency (over the pro kit), and serviceability. I think it's an upgrade in every way.
He also says some pretty interesting things about the mech-ness of it.

And to clarify on the trigger more, yes it will do single trigger electric as well; sounds like you wont' even need a different frame!

He listed single trigger mech twice, am I correct in assuming that one of those was supposed to say single trigger electro? I love me some single trigger electro action

Yes. Each frame can house both the mechanical and electronic components. The DSR mech frame can also do this, as many are likely unaware.

This was THE lead engineer of the MXR (and DSR, M3, DLS).

I really like it! It's essentially an enhanced DSR+ in a M2/3 style package as far as I can tell. After owning and selling 3 DSR+'s I'm happy to see a similar bolt system with different ergonomics. That's why I sold those guns; they were just a little too small for me.

It sounds a lot like a DSR+ in ANS's video on social media. The metal eye pipe system looks like a big improvement. The big screen is gone but I don't think it will be missed.

It appears Dye has learned what works and improved upon it. I'll buy one used in a year or so for half price.

It's not in an "M2/3 style package."

There's more "new" than there is carryover from those platforms.

Worth noting that Dave Dehaan's trial was (don't know if it still is) scheduled for tomorrow. Looks like they wanted to announce this before anything happened.

DYE isn't going anywhere, regardless of what happens with or to Dave. DYE is a multi-million-dollar-a-year aerospace manufacturer, that happens to do a few paintball things on the side. Expecting a company like that to fold just because the boss has issue, is like expecting Amazon to close down if Bezos got nailed for something. Apple, after all, didn't fold once Jobs died...

No, I have no doubt that, not only did Dave likely have little more to do with the MXR and just say "looks good, run with it", but that we'll still be able to get our brand new DYE gear for years to come, regardless of what happens with Dave himself.

          Doc.
