    Live trap for raccoons?

My neighborhood has a raccoon problem. The city only handles "domestic" animals... basically cats and dogs.

So far we have relocated two rabbits, five opposums, and about a dozen raccoons. The raccoons have torn up two of the Tractor Supply brand live traps. (Countryside or CountyLine brand?)

Locally we have Home Depot, Menards, Bomgaars, Tractor Supply, ACE, Walmart, and Academy Sports. I keep forgetting about Dicks Sporting Goods but will do my best to never shop there again.

Do any of you have recommendations on a sturdy live trap for raccoons? Are there any brands I should avoid?
I think I am going to have to order them and prefer to deal with a live person in front of me for any returns.

    Thankyou for any input.

That is over at a place called Duke traps I like the idea but it is not local for you or really anyone in West Point, MS 39773. I like the idea that it only grabs the coons hand.

Coil Spring Traps are foot-hold restraining devices used to catch and hold wild animals. This style of trap has been in use since the early part of the 20th century and is widely accepted as a cost effective and efficient tool for managing wildlife populations.

Racoon will destroy live traps, they are tough animals ...
Haven't found anything that's safe and won't get destroyed ... Get a good trap, repair is as much as you can (weld expanded "mesh" works the best) and replace as needed 👍

I had to repair two of the cheaper Tractor Supply traps Sunday... I may need to pop rivet hinges on as the crimped flanges are a weak point.

Bought a second Havahart at Home Depot.

Another raccoon yesterday. First cat today.

I use one like this, but bigger. Catch rate is around 50% neighborhood cats, 50% raccoons.

Just your standard have-a-heart trap works. Get the big one. Couple pieces of bread with peanut butter in the back works just fine.

My parents caught one and I had to go get it and release it quite a ways away. My mother thought it would make its way back otherwise.

Now you can also catch a skunk in it, so just fyi... But you will catch racoons also.

As long as skunky friend can’t raise his tail you should be fine! Now what happens once you let the little stinker out of the cage… well that might be a problem.

Raccoon or Woodchuck Traps from Wildlife Control Supplies (Page 1 of 3)

this company has the best live traps for pretty much whatever needs catching

and for skunks, drape a towel or tarp over trap, move slowly when handling and you should be okay.

not to nit pick, but almost all states have regulations as to relocating wildlife, and as such may take extreme measures to control the relocation of nuisance animals

Too early in the season. Needs to be a hard freeze to kill off the diseased ones. And not fur harvesting season yet. Can only trap and remove or kill nuisance animals. Even shooting a pellet rifle inside city limits could result in a firearms violation. So one way ride is only legal alternative available.
