I have a niece who has a farm in the path. She is currently on her way up here to Virginia with her three youngest to get out of the way.

I think comparisons to Titanic aren’t fair. It was hugely hubristic but not even pre-war Britain would rebuild the same ship and re-sink it every year at the cost of the taxpayer. Lessons were learned. There are now laws about lifeboats, for example. That’s a fundamental difference. People move TO Florida every year despite knowing that it blows up like this every year. Seriously. Net migration from other states TOWARDS THIS STORM is about 250,000 a year.

A better comparison would be the Titan submarine that sank right on top of the Titanic like many people knew it would.

That’s a very kind hearted assumption.

First, we’re not talking about Fievel Mousekewitz here. People are moving from Iowa or Nebraska or Indiana…places that don’t have Hurricanes, to places that constantly do. Even Montana, the suicide capital of America, at least gives you the option of not killing yourself.

Secondly…tomorrow NO place in the US will be worse to be than Florida. Even Diddy is in a better position that anyone on Florida’s coasts.

VERDICT: Shuffle off to Buffalo. Buffalo is a very stable city. Good jobs. Decent cost of living. Normal-ass weather, no gators, etc. Maybe…I don’t know…Cincinnati. Grand Rapids. Cleveland. Lots of places don’t have annual doomsday seasons. Most don’t.

Tomorrow, sure. Lots of better places. Most days of most years? Nah. People tend to make decisions on averages, not that once a decade or once a century thing.

I'd take a once in a decade chance of losing my house over a once a month chance of losing my life, which means I'd live in Florida over certain neighborhoods of Chicago or Baltimore. I'll take my slim chance of heat stroke in Dallas over the constant reality of income tax in Philly.

But sure, Buffalo's low risk. Troy/ Albany wasn't terrible either, but the taxes weren't fun. I left when it was still pretty dead, though.

My daughter is down going to college and staying there in a place I own... We are slightly out of the path in the south, but I wish everyone the best.
