Bank robbery on opening day of deer season?

I have a vague memory of a bank robbery attempt many years back that occurred on the opening day of deer season. The bank was across from the local diner where many hunters were having a late brunch. Story went that the robbers came outside only to be met by all the local hunters with scoped rifles pointed right at them.

My Google-fu is not at master level. I can not find a reference to this incident.

Did this actually happen? Was it on tv or in a movie? Or was this just the result of too much sugar and caffeine before bed?

Funny story there was/is a small diner across the street from our town bank. Pat's Diner was the name when last open. Even has/had a walk up ice cream window for summer time. 🤮 No robbery or stop lights yet though...*wink*wink*

Don’t know about your story but clinton, mo had a bank robbery at the bank that sits across the street from the sheriff’s office/local jail a few years ago. Just a bum that figured a warm cell was better than freezing to death in the winter.

The one I read, years ago, in a gun magazine- that supposedly had names, dates and details- had two guys try to rob a bank in Washington DC.

DC has had it's share of crime problems for a long time- it was only a few months ago, that somebody held up a Secret Service agent at gunpoint!- but in this case, the bank in question was right across the street from... the FBI headquarters. On Friday, a payday. Before the advent of direct deposit.

Supposedly it was something like they ran in, pulled guns, yelled "this is a stick-up!" (or whatever) and every single customer in the lobby drew their weapons and levelled 'em at them.

The article I read appeared legit- as I said, it gave the names of the crooks, a date and year, etc. But that was pre-internet, so who knows?

I can recall one definitely from a movie, though. I think it starred Brian Dennehy? Something like a retired cop in Boston, hanging out at a packed pub. Some crook rushes in with a gun, demands the bartender give him what's in the register. In the immediate silence, you hear about two hundred guns being cocked- it's a bar where off-duty police officers hang out, and every single one of them is pointing a gun at him.

The FBI version sounds about 1000 times more realistic.

-Well, the pub one was from a movie. It's kind of like the FBI one sounds more realistic than the ending scene from Blues Brothers, too.

I'd wager that if the FBI one actually happened, there'd be some mention of it online, but I don't even know where to start looking. Snopes, maybe?

as far as the movie reference..
it's the opening plot point in the movie "2 guns" with Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington,
they have to blow up the diner thats across the street from the bank that they need to rob, so they do that a week or so early so the cops won't be around for the free donuts when they wanna go burgling
