Started a new channel for my new hobby: Kite Reviews

After paintball, and now road racing, I've moved on to a new hobby: kite flying

After a year or so of flying and collecting, I've come to create a new channel, for kite reviews and tips: https://www.youtube.com/@KiteReveiws-y1o

my first three reviews are up:

video, sharing, camera phone, video phone, free, upload

there is a lot to actually like as a technical guy looking for a hobby in kite flying. its fiddly, its collector-y, its fun, easy and cheap to do, and unlike road racing, when you screw it up, there is no conquences.

when someone tells you to go fly a kite it is not meant to literally do it - but I won't yuck your yum

no, i only have 4 reels currently lol.

100% kite flying is a thing, and its great. gets you outside, fiddly without big conquences, plenty of stuff to collect, plenty of experiments to run ... its great fun. there are big kite flying festivals, just good quality entertainment really:

This year's Kites On Ice Festival, presented by the Buffalo (MN) Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau, saw a record crowd and number of kites in the air...

your reasons for flying kites is the same as mine for playing disc golf..interesting! I think everyone needs a hobby that gets them outside with little to no stress involved.

it is rather interesting because there is something in kiting called "pull" and thats basically the force of tension on the line. but pull is not actually the lift generated by the kite. there are kites that have low pull, but high lift. pull is also not what i call "lead" which is the amount the kite follows the line as the tension increases.

to be clear, i also still road race, most successful season yet with 4 wins, but ive more or less topped out in terms of weekends and dollars in that hobby. unless i double my salary, im at the limits of what can be done on my budget.

I raced a road once. The road won.

Ohhhhh me and you need to talk

I've been into kites for a while. Did stunt kites but got a little bored of it (and frankly was never good at slack line flying anyway) found that I loved parafoils. Bought a power kite in college and a mountain board. Found out I'm not a fan of the board (never felt stable) still have the depower kite, it's thrown me 15 feet with a gust before. Just got a slightly smaller 6.5m blade on handles to try out.

This last year took my family to the Washington State international kite festival, turns out it's the largest kite festival in North America. Everyone had an absolute blast and now we are pretty sure we will be going to at least 2 kite festivals next year.

I'm collecting a few styles of kites as they have a challenge at WSIKF to fly 5 different styles and you get a complete pin set (for free even!) I only have a Cody kite left to get

I'd love to fly some big display kites later in life. Right now I'm thinking about making a 12ft bol. It will only cost me about $100 in materials

On the 9ft delta, I bet you could replace both leading edge spars with single pieces and eliminate the joints. Especially if you use something like graphite or carbon rods it will be pretty stiff. if KHK has repair parts line most kite shops I'd bet they would have something

facinating. yeah, everyone asks me first thing when i say im into kites, am i into sport kites ... and im not. i have enough high adreline exciting hobbies, kites are about slowing down, and enjoying the simple things. a nice day. a beer or THC beverage, a nice afternoon, some beautiful kites ... you know, the things in life we so often ignore because we need to move, produce, etc. kites are about slowing down and enjoying the ride. its simple. its beautiful. thats all it needs to be.

big reason why i like single line kites. exciting enough.

i feel like there are parafoil people, and delta people ... and im a bit of delta person. though yesterday, once i did get my bora 7 up, it was a great flier so maybe i just need to pick better parafoil flight days.

i'd like to get into BIG stuff, like the 30+ foot trilobites and such, but i haven't yet. probably this winter.

kite festivals are my favorite, we have 2 locally here, one in summer and one in winter.

i also am excited to start making kites. i have a few ideas.

Oh please do a review on that Bora at some point. I've been eyeballing them as a lifting platform if they can manage it.

Also, what's the measurement system of the boras? I did the math on the measurements I found online and it comes out to 12sq meters which seems very large to me. My large power kite is 7.5 SQ meter and it has no problem picking me up, also comes with 500lb line for each of the 4 lines. The Bora comes with a single 80lb line which doesn't seem like it should be enough for 12m of lifting surface.

So I don't understand if the 5 or 7 relate to anything like the way the rest of the kite industry use square meters
