It doesnt help that I work with my hands, qnd never stopped working ( aside from a few hours to get stitched up) mine could have healed much better. I opened it up 20 minutes after my stitches came out so I still have a chunk missing.

yeah, but the nice thing is that fingers tend to regenerate skin as a very rapid pace, and your only a month in.. youll be fine sooner than you think

I keep super glue, and gauze around my work stations in case I open myself up. Years ago I sliced my thumb wide open being an idiot in the kitchen, but alcohol, electrical tape with gauze, then glued everything together once the bleeding was controlled. Healed perfectly and I didn’t lose the fleshy flap.

I draw the line at splitting a thumb though. I’d see a doctor if possible so there’s a better chance at fighting a nasty infection. Plus bone pieces, saw dust and god knows what may need to be cleaned out. Not meant to be a preachy post, you’re your own man.

I use super glue also but this one was two much like hamburger to do.. I just squeezed it together firmly and wrapped it tight the, first nite..
I have taken no pain medication as it doesn't really hurt that much so I'm guessing the nerves and bone were not damaged.

Good lord. I knew it was going to be nasty, but I looked anyway. Hope it heals fast, Wally.

I have antibiotics that I'm taking left over from the last incident...
and no pain Meds needed so I'm felling pretty optimistic about this...

So... I design implantable devices. I'm legit concerned about the distinct possibility of brass shavings remaining in your thumb. That stuff is toxic in the body, and could cost you more than your thumb. Please consider an x-ray to reveal the size and overall volume of any metal fragments trapped within, and hear the doc's prognosis. In particular, I'm worried about the potential for sepsis. I think there's not likely to be enough to cause it in an otherwise healthy individual, but I'm not a doctor.

Either way, I hope you heal up soon and take the opportunity to rest up over the holidays.

That's a bush league attempt there, Walz. You can do better.

                          Update:
so far all is looking good as far as swelling and pain. ( no swelling at all really)
i had cut my finger also with a chunky half moon cut and it hurt worse than my thumb.

both feel pretty good now except today when my dog stepped directly on the thumb..

hope to get back to using the thumb maybe maybe next week... ( I'm always optimistic)...

                          thanks everyone....
