Another popular excuse for ditching CRTs is power consumption but in reality most old TVs are only less efficient PER INCH so in reality your TV from today may be burning as much or more juice than what you had 20 years ago. LCDs tend die faster too so that’s more energy wasted.
I'm not sure I agree with any of this?

A 32" Sony CRT used 175 watts , my 55" Samsung is rated at 60 watts "typical" 135 watts "maximum." To go to the same size, a 32" HiSense uses only 45 watts.

I did swap out my last LCD TV after 13 years for a combination of it having developed 2 vertical lines in it, but mostly because a moth got inside it and left a big dust splotch between the panel and the backlight. I caught the 55" Samsung 4k on sale for $300 so it seemed like a good time to replace it. The old one went to the garage to watch videos while working on cars, it still works fine.

Space wise, I can give up space to a 4" thick object mounted to the wall much more easily than a 23" deep (for only the 32" CRT" object that has to be on a large stand of some sort sticking out into the room.

Its true the efficiency gains of an LCD are usually overstated.

The LED lighted LCD's are better still, but again, overstated vs a good ol CRT which aren't that heinous.

Space wise, yeah it is no contest the volume of usable space destroyed by a large CRT is significantly greater than that of an LCD.

*AAAHHHHHH* The wife found her RetroN3 in the attic so I've been able to scratch the itch. Most games are working fine. I'm pleasantly surprised at the video quality, and the way they display just fine on wide screen format. Maybe that's from the RetroN but I expected either black bars or picture distortion

Donkey Kong Country does not display quite right and glitches out on me, but I guess that was one of the more advanced SNES games graphically

For disc based systems maybe something like the Polymega. Playing PlayStation, Saturn, N64, etc. on an LCD/LED/whatever isn’t great, at least connecting them via composite. S-video looks a little better but it’s not significant. I was lucky enough to be helping somebody move & one of the things they were sending to the dump was an old flat screen CRT Toshiba. ~20” so doesn’t take up a huge amount of space, especially if it’s in a corner. Before that i had been using a HUGE GE, which was fine, but it took up a considerable amount of space. All my older systems look fantastic on the smaller Toshiba & i can still play my light gun games.
