I'm in Production and Manufacturing. I'm the one that tells the Engineers that their model doesn't fit in the real world or somehow needs a 7 axis machine (of which two axis don't exist in three dimensional space) to make

Remember folks, round router and mill bits don't make square inside corners.

No they don't, but that is what EDM machines and shapers are for.

But all them engineers so how it's made a few times and they learned more axis = more better. Feel your pain early career was producibility engineering and running the prototype shop. We used to have the wall of shame all the bad prints and parts just to try and "inspire" the new kids coming in.

Mech/Design/Quality Engineer for over 30 years.
I have done quite a few things in my lifetime on this rock.
I have three patents so far with another 2 in submission right now.
I have designed fuel systems for automotive and small engine, then did quality engineering for the same company.
I worked for over 7 1/2 years for the company that manufactured HMMWVs for the US military and other countries.
Right now I'm working for a company that makes lawn and garden tools and snow removal equipment.
        It is a living.

I'm a technician, the natural frienemy of the engineer. I kid but don't forget about us wrench turners when y'all are designing stuff.

Yesterday I could not spell "Ingineer" but today I are one...
I also forgot that I taught Engineering classes for 4 years at an extension of the university I graduated from.
Academia is a whole different world that I really don't ever want to get involved with again.

BS and MS in mechanical engineering. Worked in nuclear power for many years (hypothetical accident analysis of PWR, essentially PRA work; still consult) and then transitioned into sale engineering (I’m a people person). I now run a Dutch companies operations for the US and Canadian markets…we design and manufacture equipment for the recycling space (plastic, glass, metals, construction & demolition waste, cement, etc.)

superman and I graduated from the same school. He was in the building next to mine.

PRA work is fun. Did that a bit for a while with PSM controlled chemicals at a corn milling plant and dealing with combustible dust control.

AAS in electrical engineering, which has proven to be no better than a high school diploma. Now i'm a tech support guy for a place that specializes in power electronics. My job is literally telling people what's in the manuals they never read, and issuing RMAs for repairs when they don't listen.

My job title is operating engineer, which is basically building operation and maintenance. When I worked in the private sector I did everything from electrical, plumbing, hvac, etc. Now I'm in the public sector and my most important tools are my pen and flashlight.
