    Old cool hand tools.

Have you picked up any old hand tools that you not seen or come across very often. For $20 bucks locally I picked up a bag of open wrenches, pliers, hammer and even a old hand drill.

But the coolest one was this wire stripper. Not seen one of these before. Left jaw clamps on the wire. Right jaw strips the wire when you squeeze the handles. Very solid feel to them.

I love those strippers. Sooo handy to do it all in one tool!

The purpose I believe was to partially strip the wire without removing the outer insulation completely. That way you could twist it without introducing sweat from your dirty fingers that will eventually oxidize. Mostly important in aviation or space application where certification is necessary for liability.

Yeah I was gonna say...at my old job, I used to see a modern version on the manufacturing line. Very nice compared to the classic design

Do they solder a lot of stuff in aviation, or is it all crimping?

I only know from second hand, never worked on anything bigger than an audio pre amplifier. I posted the video below where I got my info about aviation. Those videos are like my version of kittens doing funny stuff. Tech videos are therapy.

Mil-Spec, at least, doesn't allow solder termination AFAIK; only crimps and welds.

Sounds correct, soldering leaves lots of room for error. I posted the video below where I got my info from.

re: "lots of room for error", that's an understatement. Even the video you showed, which was very carefully done, appears that he may have charred the insulation when tinning the wire... Crimps are much easier, and the best crimps result in a cold weld.. hard to beat
