I get the computer based training reminder emails about once a month. My lovely classes include the ever popular.... insider trading, cyber-security awareness, hazardous energy deactivation, lock-out-tag-out, and an absolute sh*t ton of refresher classes for certifications. There is no way to skip any of it and it takes hours....best part, There will be a test with a minimum of 80% or else you get to retake the class.

My favorite training video illustrated why you shouldn't leave your keys in the forklift. Some random untrained coworker might decide to go on a joyride, crash into the break room wall, and impale an innocent bystander with one of the forks, complete with bewildered bug-eyed victim staring down at the fork coming out of his torso chest-burster style, horribly fake graphics/effects of course

But then that was kind of tempered down with a video of security footage from actual accidents that really killed people, which was kinda sobering

That was truly an unbelievable experience.

I had a crazy MSHA trainer once for 32 hours. This dude was a Navy Seal, no wait he was the radio operator for the Navy Seals, no wait he was the cook on the boat for the Seals. His wife could shoot a 45-70 over 1300 yards and would demonstrate as he drove past the targets coming down the driveway. His son was the videographer for the video of explosive mining techniques (that happened to be the number one video on the subject on Youtube). He can shout over 130 dB from practicing in the mine. Because he's Celtic, his skin had over twice the electrical impedance of someone with dark skin, so he's less likely to be electrocuted. He once felled a tree that broke his back in four places as he saved his father in law from its inevitable fall towards him, after which his wife had to help him pee. And silicosis is serious because no one has ever survived a double lung transplant.

At which point a coworker pipes up, "I have a buddy who had a double lung transplant. He just ran a marathon. Oh, and he's a retired Navy Seal. Here's his website."

I feel like next time I go in a mine, I'm more likely to die having been "trained" by Dave.

              SAFETY MEETING

One thing that always helps me that I would suggest, weed

Although OSHA might frown on that type of safety meeting..

Oh man, came across the fictitious scenario section

Bree didn't take her customers safety as a priority and 30 minutes after the call the house burst into flames. Now let's listen to the 911 call that was a result of this

*Screaming in background* my daughter is on fire! Our house exploded! I can't find my husband!

Good job Bree! You killed the fictitious family with your fictitious lack of caring!

What a jerk, look at her driving home in her convertible bmw, taking up 3 parking spots so she can get her vegan mocha

Mainly it’s people who never took shop in high school, because their parents told them it was for idiots and now they don’t know a single thing about anything except like…how to sell a loan or insure something…those are the ones that end up dead because they never figured out stuff rolls down hill or stuff freezes or stuff falls. It’s absolutely incredible how ignorant people are of the physical world around them.
Incredibly well said. as the owner of a shop with employees, its pretty incredible the decline in the level of some of the most basic common sense knowledge people somehow exist with. Cleaning a bathroom, how to sweep a floor, how to wash a frigging dish, clean up after yourself. Parenting and schools 100% to blame. I live in fear of turning out two boys like that, and do my best. its insane to watch some of their friends come over and be impressed by my sons astounding ability to make his own toast.

Take that lack of basic common sense stuff and throw forklifts, gasses, machines moving parts into the mix, and you start to see why these videos exist. As a pilot In a former life I have to have respect for recurring training on even the most mundane crap, its easy to fall into bad habits, and quick to kill you.

could they make some better videos though? please?

I think it would be better to just allow people to take the test at the end first. If they already have the knowledge there's no need to force them to sit through hours of videos.

If they fail, then go watch mindless videos and try again

No. But they said nothing of launching them from the bed of a pickup truck so you can apparently do that
