Anyone try a slingshot for paintball?

I feel like they used to make a paintball specific one but has anyone tried your run of the mill Bass pro shop slingshot to sling some paint?

That’ll be fun and challenging at the same time. I’ve made a blowgun out of copper tubing back in the back but that didn’t work so well for me. I think a slingshot would be a better option between the 2.

When I took my dad paintballing he wouldn't stop talking about how he and his buddies played the same game but with red ryders, wrist rockets and trash can lids growing up.


Id imagine with enough time and tinkering it wouldn't be too difficult to make or find one that maxes out velocity wise at field safe speeds. I think the hard part would be avoiding breaking the paint in the little pocket part of the sling when drawing it back. Sounds like a fun project though!

A quick reddit search shows a guy that made the little leather pouch part paintball sized. I just got a step up from the cheapest one they had to do some backyard trials. $25 came with fiberoptic sights and steel balls

Yep, we shot 50cal out of our slingshots as a kid when we ran out of Co2

I've used a normal wrist rocket years back. With my crossmann wrist rocket balls had a huge arc of flight. Balls seemed to be a bit heavy for a usable velocity with that wrist rocket specifically.

I've seen a couple like that. One guy had a pouch to hold the ball with a tab on the back to pull so you wouldn't squish the paintball.
Another guy made a paintball grenade launcher out a rubber band speargun. Saw it work, but it was never field legal.
That grenade coming down could knock a man off his feet.

Worked well - you can crush the ball on the draw but honestly that's just a technique thing. Pinch in front of the ball, not on it.

Velocity was in the 200s, so, playable.

We have sling shot paint all fights all.the time. I use the daisy ones from Cabela's I think? Just gotta be gentle on the squeeze. Have the sling wrap around the ball and pull from front of the ball. The key to a good slingshot is getting ones with bigger tubes and sling so your not putting a lot of force on just one area when you pull back.
We use them in close quarters almost exclusively. In abandoned buildings sort of thing. They are pretty accurate up to maybe 100ft. We never wear masks but I wear glasses so I don't care if someone gets hit in the eye lol

Slingshot paintball is a great time. Have gotten a couple eliminations in rec ball that were extremely satisfying, but it’s very very difficult depending on the field. Gotta play fairly stealthily and only engage within about 10-30ft. Have only ever used a cheap Barnett or Daisy slingshot with 15 balls or so in a dump pouch up front.

1v1 slingshots on a speedball field is also a blast but can quickly become a funny running match of misses and bounces.

Some fields are weird about slingshots but I’ve probably never gotten a ball much over 200.

It's challenging but doable. Getting a kill is extremely satisfying.

Yep. I keep it for days when the younger rentals are too scared to play against me. Tough to shoot from a crouched position

I can get 260fps on a full draw with one of these. It’s definitely good enough to get an elimination.

The People’s Republic of New Jersey protects us from these as well. May as well have a sawed off 10gauge under you car seat if you carry a slingshot lol.

Amazon wont ship them but you can find places that will I had mine shipped. I think off eBay. Some websites will ship them to but that the one to get if you are going to do it. You really got to draw it back to get the velocity with a Paintball.

Style points to those who try it. Style points squared for those who score eliminations. It's a difficult wonky platform to play with.

I have scored far more eliminations with barrel tags and training knives. I don't have the patience for a slingshot.

Every time I have attempted to use a sling shot I have gotten a hand full of eliminations with it through out the day. It’s a lot easier if the field is setup with good plentiful cover. Just got to get close and make them count. It’s surprisingly accurate just slow. It’s much easier to use a Wrist Rocket than the Airow Bow. A good dump pouch to hold paint helps. You can kind of hold a few rounds on your draw hand with your other fingers while using your pointer and thumb to pinch the paintball in the pocket.

I always loved the idea of the airow, but the execution was poor. Having to manually load each ball by twisting stuff and messing with bits is a huge PITA. It didn't even have detents or a proper bolt.

With a little more RnD time, there's no reason it couldn't have been made compatible with DAM mags and FS, and there's no reason it couldn't have been made semi. By semi I mean, when you draw back it loads the next ball. Naturally it also should have had rails.

I realise that would require a fairly significant overhaul of the design, but it's very doable.

If I could buy a CF20 and FS compatible airowgun that worked ambidextrously and was semi (as stated), that would be hard to resist.

It could definitely be improved. The biggest issue is the size and weight of draw required to get field speeds. I always wanted to put one on a Autococking CrossBow but they are super expensive and it would require a complete re design with a larger shorter piston chamber,

On draw weight, that's part of why I'd thought FS would be a good option. Require less power to get up to speed.

Oh for sure to bad most fields don’t allow them. I bet it could be made way more efficient if the dump chamber was enlarged and designed more efficiently as well.
