Yeah, saw it too. USPS has been under attack lately, and it seems like they're doing what they can to hurt it.

Not lately. It's been an ongoing attack.

        Here’s the link: https://support.pirateship.com/en/articles/11648947-usps-rate-change-july-2025?utm_source=intercom&utm_medium=email&utm_camp aign=2025-07-02_RateChange-USPS

Most Ground Advantage shipments won't see a rate increase 🎉 That said, Ground Advantage shipments under 1 pound will increase by an average of 4.5%, and shipments over 20 pounds will increase by a flat 2.8%.

        Priority Mail

Priority Mail rates are increasing in most cases, with shipments to Zones 4-6 increasing by up to 51% 😱 Generally speaking, Priority Mail shipments under 1 pound will see the highest rate hikes, and rates will increase by up to 28% for packages over 1 pound.

However, some Priority Mail shipments will decrease: rates for 2-3 pound shipments traveling to Zones 1-4 will decrease by up to 6.5%, and some Priority Mail Cubic shipments going to the same zones will decrease by up to 10%.

On the one hand, this hurts. On the other hand, my local post office employees aren't my favorite people. The difference between walking into a post office and a UPS store is insane around here, with one or two exceptions. Local chatter was that OT paid 3x, so guys were skipping deliveries M-F to pick up extra OT on Saturday. With my previous mailman, he made it easy to believe. Seems to be improving though.

It's not a hard sell to switch to a different carrier for most things. Pirateship, Shippo, and a few others can really help find a better rate if you get sticker shock. The insurance on high value items - like specialty tools - is what always gets me, though, irrespective of carrier. $3k shipment is gonna be $100 or more IMO.

Well crap, I have a whole shelf full of flat rate boxes. Guess I'll need to look into ups/FedEx now

Yes, BTW you can use the USPS flat rate boxes at UPS and use UPS Ground (in case you dont have a box)
            Working...
