In 1956 (the year I was born), IBM built the first Computer Hard Disk Drive, the IBM 350 Disk Storage Unit, which weighed over a ton and needed a forklift to move.

The unit had a storage capacity of 5 Megabytes!

I found it interesting that twice B-47's had to jettison their nuclear payload while over the U.S. One has never been found.
I was looking at the wiki page and it listed others, notable people born that year.
I was surprised and depressed over the percentage of those no longer with us.
