On April 12, 1961, aboard the spacecraft Vostok 1, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin becomes the first human being to travel into space. During the flight, the 27-year-old test pilot and industrial technician also became the first man to orbit the planet, a feat accomplished by his space capsule in 89 minutes.

The worlds first digital watch was announced by Pulsar...and it originally cost $16,300 adjusted for inflation. I knew someone in finance that paid $800 for one in the 70's. I paid $35 for this pretty decent copy about 15 years ago. It uses so much power you have to push the button to display the time or date and it takes 2 batteries. It's great for the movie theater though.
