    My stupid back

I have been experiencing pain in my left leg for some time now and I finally have a diagnosis. Grade 1 L5 spondylolisthesis. Hoping PT will help, if not I may have to consider surgery.
The other piece is that I was told I shouldn't run anymore and frankly, that really sucks.

Aw shit bro. Hope the PT does the trick. But if surgery is what you need to run again, then get it! I know how much you love running!!

Ortho said that whatever route I take, PT, surgery, whatever, running will just not be something I can do anymore without damaging my back. Its too new to fully get my head around but I'm just going to give my everything to PT.

PT should help. a nerve ablation might help any regional and
mechanical pain ... I just took a 3mo vacation from low back pain that way

for sciatica I am looking at doing a spinal cord stimulator. more invasive surgery should be carefully considered - once you start down that path it will lead to more of it in the years to come

I hope PT helps and you have a speedy recovery. Back pains are no joke, and sadly seems not much can be done.

        man...
i've had two knee surgeries and lots of back problems. i've been told almost the same thing about running; some version that i shouldn't run anymore.
i still run almost every day and hit the gym the other days.

when the doc told me i needed double knee surgery, i fainted...
give it time. i had to stop running for a year after my surgeries. the one thing that kept my sanity and fitness was an erg rower.

crazy thing about my back problems... i have typical injuries from years of abuse, blah, blah, blah...
but after my fifth or so MRI, they diagnosed me with MS. no way i'll ever stop running.

Sloonan, Reach out to Toni. Shes been through a lot with her back and if nothing else might be able to be emotional support. Ask her about the back program she went through at Dartmouth so that you can talk to your doctors and see if something like that is a good option for you.

Everything in my life a doctor has told me I wouldn't do again I have been able to do. Predicting the future is what doctors are worst at. Get a good PT and communicate your goals to them clearly.
