2025 long beach kite festival PICTURES! (WSIKF)

Figured some of you guys like kites so I'd share my recent trip to the Washington State international kite festival (WSIKF)

The festival runs Monday-Sunday of the 3rd FULL week in August every year. It's the largest kite festival in North America and it's put on by the world kite museum which is also in Long Beach WA.

We could only do Wednesday-Sunday this year but 5 days camping with 2 little ones is still a lot.

First off I'll spare you the story of how I managed to snag it but this was our camping spot. As you can see, the view was terrible.

    My girls really hated it

    Cooking breakfast was equally terrible

Out to the festival! The wind was on the strong side so I think some of the larger kites couldn't come out. Even still, there was some big stuff in the air

This thing is always one of our favorite elements that's out there every year. The guy who owns it had each fabric custom made, the native American eagle was out all weekend, he has a sea turtle one as well that I really enjoy. But the arch is about 40 feet wide and it's around 50 feet long

One of the cool things the festival does, they have 5 events called Mass ascension events. Each event has one style of kite, all the participants come onto the main event field and fly the same style of kite at the same time. If you participate you get a pin. The pins are actually really well made, enameled metal. The center pin has the year and the outside 5 all lock together like puzzle pieces. Last year we didn't know about it and signed up on a whim. My oldest daughter Eve flew in 2 of the events because that's the kite styles that we had and got the two pins. In the off season I worked on collecting the other styles of kites and we managed to have all 5 this year. So Eve got to fly in all 5 events this year and was very excited to have earned the whole set

    Ascension 1, delta kites

Ascension 2, box and cellular kites

    Ascension 3 Cody kites

Ascension 4 was flat and bowed kites but I forgot to take a photo

Ascension 5, soft and spar-less kites

She also got to try her hand at flying a 4 line revolution kite

Lunchtime at the lost roo, an Australian themed restaurant in Long Beach, great name even better food. My smallest Micah agrees

Back at Cape disappointment State Park we hiked up to one of the two lighthouses

Friday evening our friends arrived with their two kids. Micah now had an accomplice and they were ready to ride off into the sunset together

Friday night! Night kites! So much fun, really blew me away last year and it was very light wind last year. This year we had much more wind and the show was great

Overall it's an absolutely fantastic festival and I highly recommend it to anyone even if you are not a kite flyer. It's really fun to just relax on the beach and see so much color in the air.
