May she rest knowing her shadow stands beside the Blessed Saint Francis.

I was a huge fan of the far side growing up and learned who Jane Goodall was from this comic. It's a particularly fun comic because the executive of her research foundation responded quite harshly to the comic as Jane was out in the field. Meanwhile her reaction was very positive, exclaiming "finally real fame at last." I learned this because she wrote the forward to one of his collections.

Her and Gary Larson even became friends, and he ended up working at her research center after he retired. Her incredible work stands up there with greats modern figures like Attenborough, Irwin and Nye in inspiring future scientists, but I find that that story shows a unseen side of her.

Edit: a fun detail I didn't know is that Larson was attacked by an alpha male chimpanzee named Frodo while at the institute, which is a far side comic strip of its own.
