Free 3oz Co2 tank with Drinkmate

I bought a new drinkmate carbonation/soda maker a few months ago and it came with a small 3oz starter Co2 tank... I kept thinking... hey I wonder if I can take the valve off and put a paintball one in?
sure as shit!.... and they didn't even loctite it like most shady ass paintball shops hacking anti siphon valves back in the day!
No idea if they still ship that way... it does not say on amazon.

    Tempting...

Edit: a package that clearly shows 2x 3oz tanks included, $50 total.

And a 6 pack of cylinders for $90

CO2 valves should not have loc-tite. But thats a whole different can of worms. Good find.

I've re-valved a few over the years...and I've seen a fair amount of red loc-tite. esp. ones that shops did anti siphons on. DGX here in Napa was a notorius loctiter back in the day.

How hard are they to drain without the soda machine?

Just loosen the burst disc a little and it will release the CO2.

Why? Typically markers running CO2 didn't have on/offs so the chances of spinning the valve off the tank are higher without something to prevent it. Not to mention unlike HPA you have the same pressure on either side of the valve

Tank manafacturers like Catalina Cylinders (makers of most co2 tanks) specifically said on there website to not use loctite. The reason was 3 part- First, you should always torque the threads to the proper specs. Those specs are calculated "dry", and using loctite would not give an accurate torque reading. 2nd, improper use of loctites, especially red loctite, is the #1 reason for hydrotesting failure from damage received from trying to remove valve.

3nd, using loctite can render the safety vents inoperable, when loctite liquid cures in that vent. There were 2 fatalities in the early 00s where this exact situation happened. Speficically, the company that sold the tanks used too much loctite, it clogged the vent. Then later, someone removed the valve and installed an anti-siphon not knowing the vent was clogged, and not properly torqued. At some point, the valve because unscrewed from a full tank, and bad things happened.

This led to a series of lawsuits. Obviously, I'm sure its something that has a place and can be used properly. But in my days, I've installed probably hundres of siphoin valves, and the rules was always "torque properly, dry".

                    Ok, so slightly off topic.

These soda makers any good for making seltzer?

I think there was a whole other thread about this awhile ago.. in my opinion - yes! we use ours every night. filling up the bottles and keeping them in the fridge so they are cold when you gas them is key. I like that you can overcarbonate them to some extent so they make my whiskey and soda more fizzy! since were crusty old paintballers, you can really save some money by picking up a bulk Co2 tank and getting an adapter to re-fill the 16oz bottles yourself.

Thanks. I'm going to have to take a look for that thread and see if I can find ingredients for the flavorings. The wife cut basically all sweeteners out of her diet years ago. But if one of these can add variety to our daily seltzers that could be really cool.
