Are we allowed to post an open invite to a discord group? (Autococker focused group). I would prefer not to break any rules so I will post the link when I know IF it is allowed.
in my opinion, discord should never be used for something like this. You're removing good information from the searchable internet. Facebook is almost the same way.
real time chat, scheduling, etc is something discord should be used for, but never information that needs to be curated.
To each his own. I have found it as a good way for me to easily connect to other people to both gain and spread the knowledge. I wont stop comming here. ( we also only link to other sources for selling on this discord [IE redditBST, MCB, ebay, fb BST] It can be a modderation headace for allowing sellers.
I mean, doesn't matter to me, but yes it does make information harder to find, but have at it and see if people join. I used to have discord but lost my discord account a long time ago now. I did an email purge and started all new email addresses when I left my company. Well wouldn't you know, the discord email was one of those old emails. But they'll email me my confirmation... Which I can never get again. So I just ended up giving up on the whole discord thing.
Discord is what caused the Dead Internet. Who benefits from anything on there that wouldn't have been a bigger benefit being searchable by the public? It's locking information inside fringe groups of people who don't even know each other anyway. Perfect example: before I was IP banned on Reddit, I used to spend a lot of time in /r/Tarantulas to not only see cute spoods every day, but to learn everything I could about keeping the little dudes in case I wanted to take up that hobby someday. I didn't get to learn anywhere near as much as I would have liked to, because every single time someone came there with a serious problem - be it a health crisis, an issue with a habitat setup, a rescue attempt - someone would swoop in in ten seconds and DM them a link to the Discord, so they could help them out. It made the place utterly worthless as a teaching tool or pool of knowledge. That's all that app does. It also ruined online gaming by killings the mics. Why introduce it here?
