    25 years

Feeling more numb than sad or angry, at the moment.

Anyway - hoist your favorite beverage and honor those who rose to the challenge that day and afterwards. I checked with my buddy who helped with recovery in the rubble. We drank, a lot, after he got back from that. He is doing okay.

High school. I heard about it in the hallway between classes (accident? Something more?), and the second plane had struck by the time we turned on the news. I distinctly remember watching the first tower collapse live, and nobody really understood what was happening until the smoke started drifting away.

And I remember standing on the back porch, probably the 12th, marveling at not a single plane in the sky.

Hell of a day. I still have the local newspaper somewhere.

I was in a classroom with Juliani's son. They came and took him out and airlifted him from the football field. Nobody in the school would tell us what was going on. I didn't find out till i finally got home. Man was that a surreal day. A few kids I knew lost parents, and luckily, one more i knew had his dad late for work that day at the towers. Prayers for all those effected by this trajedy.

I remember being a high school sophomore and watching the news in every class that day and taking notes on all the things the news reported to see what would prove to be true later. Sad and crazy day that changed everything.

I was driving to university listening to the radio thinking it was BS and then they said the second tower was hit. They pulled out TVs all around campus and people just stood there watching in disbelief and sadness. I’m on the west coast, so pretty far removed from it all, but still made a forever impression.

I was in Aviation School at the time. The instructor turned on the TV we watched the first tower burn as the second plane hit. I remember how people treated each other after it was just different. Flags everywhere! The clean up process was brutal. People came from all over to help each other. Strangers helping strangers. The chant was “never forget” 25years later we are reminded on this day.

Unfortunately seeing NYC today I can say without a doubt they forgot. Most people today learn about it on a podcast, documentary, or through whatever media bubble they subscribe to. But for the people who lived through it. It’s seared into the deepest scars of what makes them who they are. God Bless the men and women who put their lives on the line and gave it all to help serve and protect perfect strangers.

              Are you still in aviation?

I have my private pilots license. That’s as far as I went with it. My grandfather was a fighter pilot flew for an airline before getting a job in the private sector he was also an instructor so I got my flight hrs through him past my test to get my license. I haven’t flown is a while I was sharing a plane with a group but it got too expensive to maintain. Recently got a VTOL but it’s still in the testing phase. I did get to fly around the Statue of Liberty as a kid before the airspace was locked down. My Grandfather had a Citabria Champion we would fly the hell out of it was a pretty incredible experience. They were capable of 5g stunts. I’m going to get back into it when I retire in 4 years.

I was in 4th grade in art class, suddenly an announcement came for all students to return to their home rooms, where we were told what was happening. I believe this was after the second plane hit. My one classmate was freaking out, worried that something was going to happen locally. Our teacher was reassuring him that we were safe living in south central PA. Shortly after that we were dismissed as parents or family members arrived to pick us up.

About the time I got home is when I learned about flight 93 crashing 45 minutes away from where I lived. I spent most of the remainder of the day watching the news coverage.

I worked in Newark, NJ, then, and that Tuesday the 11th was my day off. I saw the towers for the last time on Monday the 10th.
My wife and I were talking about how 25 years had passed, and I made a parallel: if you remembered Pearl Harbor in 1941, then the parallel would be that you were talking about it in 1966 cause 25 years would've passed.

as for me, I was at work when the news started to break. I had just seen a headline online when my Dad called me. We talked for a minute about it, thinking back to when the small plane hit the Empire State bldg a long time ago. After I hung up with him more people at work started to talk about it. We grabbed all the TVs from the play test group and took them to a conference room that could actually get TV reception ( just typing that makes me feel a bit old ). It was right after we got them up and going and people had started to fill up the room that the second plane hit. Then it was almost just robotically watching the rest play out and the towers falling.

Lots of phone calls then - our corporate offices at the time were right down the street from it all. And then the cell phone networks went down. I tried to donate blood but got turned away at 2 places.

The next day seeing the empty skies was weird - the Mid Atlantic is a busy place. In a way that was a strange blessing, having that quiet calm overhead. I remembered thinking I needed to cherish that because I doubted I'd ever see the sky devoid of planes again.

Here in NZ it completely dominated the news cycle for weeks just like everywhere else.

I had management school class that morning. All the students had seen the news, but the lecturer - who was from the US - was super chipper and clearly hadn't heard.

It was a very awkward class. We were all very silent, nobody wanted to say anything. We were immature kids I guess.
