ALDI grocery food price list from 2019 or 2020

At the time, we had a nanny. My wife voluntold the nanny to get groceries for us as part of the nanny duties. The nanny obliged. She would take our kiddos with her in our van on grocery trips.

My wife went through the entire ALDI store and word for word on each price tag, she entered the info into a spreadsheet. She then printed off a copy, marked how much of each item, and the nanny did the rest. The nanny always had an envelope with cash for the groceries.

I'd love to have the time to compare these to today's prices. Anyway, enjoy!

I might be crazy, but haven't grocery prices always fluctuated at least a little bit?
I'm assuming your wife made this list so the nanny couldn't lie about the price. Couldn't you have just requested a receipt?

We had zero concern that the nanny would cheat or steal. Each line item reads exactly as the price tag would read on the store shelf. That makes it foolproof and easy for the nanny. And yes, we checked the receipt against the amount remaining in the envelope of cash each time. Never a discrepancy.

    Here's some ALDI flyers from 2019: https://web.archive.org/web/20190403103604/https://www.weeklyads2.com/aldi/

    and 2020: https://web.archive.org/web/20200517...ads2.com/aldi/

I won't be doing the comparing, but if someone else was compelled to find items in the flyers and compare them to current prices that would cool.

Most things have increased from that list in the Pittsburgh area. Some a bit more than others. I just bought the Kirkwood chicken fries last Friday for $4.99 a bag. The Kirkwood thick cut bacon (not low sodium was actually 3.95 for a 16 oz pack. Cheeses are only up 20-40 cents a pack. The store brand hot dogs went up in cost by a fair bit oddly enough... Paper towels, TP, aluminum foil, flour, sugar, etc. definitely went up by nearly double in some cases.

I feel like Aldi has stayed pretty reasonable while giant eagle has skyrocketed in price. I don’t have any numbers to back it up, but every time I go to giant eagle for the couple of ingredients that Aldi doesn’t have, it’s more than my entire Aldi cart.

My parents taught me that if I went down to the box factory with a crisply ironed shirt and a firm handshake I'd get a job that would pay for a a 4 bed, 2 bath "starter home" and if I was a loyal employee, I'd be able to afford a second secret family an hour away after a few years. Have things changed?

That 18 year cycle isn't gonna break any time soon... maybe try buying around 2028-2030? But yeah, housing is crazy.

Crushing in Nebraska with that Nanny type work. Nice! I would say add a dollar to most things; couple bucks to most meats; and anything under a dollar, would 1.5x. Aldi was and is the bomb; but their prices early on were amazingly low.

PS, tell your wife to stop with the 1k tp rolls and get the medium softness. The plush they mess up sometimes and has fluff.

enshifitication isnt just happening to software. as the juice runs out of our economic system, they are going to squeeze us for every red penny. be interesting to find out how far we let them. millennials are the first generation that will economically do worse than their parents, and genZ doesnt even have a chance.

its gonna get worse before it gets better. buckle up. build your network now. know who will go to jail for you now, and know who you will go to jail for now too. when it happens, it will happen fast. you'll be working on your truck in the driveway and the feds are gonna show up, and you don't want to be wondering what's about to happen.

I was just talking with my boss about this. What's happened is there no more competition, because the competition bought each other out. We're now at the "squeeze the customer for all their money" phase. It's literally the Monopoly board after everyone is stacked with houses and hotels; it's only fun if you're the one able to control things.

The only way civilized way to stop it is to get honest and normal people in political office at the same time, and hold these companies accountable by breaking up the monopolies.

which can't happen cause we have the "openly doing crime directly to you face, stealing billions of your money and laughing cause we can" party, and the "well, we need criminals money if we are going to run a party now don't we" party.

its gonna get worse before it gets better. buckle up. the american troubles are already here. twice in 5 years we've had to fight the government here and we have some of the most progressive government in the country, and they dont do jack shit, its gonna keep happening. get ready now.
