Keep everything you have an emotional attachment to and get rid of everything else.
This Can, you should come down to Slim's just to shoot the shit with everyone.
Even if your body prevents you from actively playing, you can still enjoy the community.

I'm not selling my paintball gear any time soon, but I encountered a similar problem a few years ago with my motorcycle, a 1989 Honda Magna. When I first bought the bike, I went riding at least once a week, and more importantly I had a few friends who also had bikes. It was a really fun hobby for a few years. But then my friends starting having kids, and they all sold their bikes one-by-one. I also changed jobs, so I didn't have as much time to ride on my own. And my wife never really enjoyed it. So, eventually it got to the point where I was only riding the bike a few times a year, and always alone. Half the time I had to charge the battery before going out because it was dead from sitting for so long.

At that point, it didn't make sense to me to keep it. The bike started feeling less like a toy and more like a burden. But I still kept it for another year or so because of the sentimental attachment. And I thought for a while that I would start riding again more frequently.

Then finally my wife made a suggestion that really made sense to me. She said that I should sell the bike but then use some of the money to invest in a different hobby. So, I did. I sold the motorcycle and used that money to buy a few good paintball loaner set-ups so I could take more friends out with me. And whenever a buddy is using one of my loaner guns and having a good time, I really feel like the motorcycle is still with me, in a way. It's just taken a different form.

So, that is my recommendation. Sell the gear if you don't see yourself using it again. Take some good pictures first so you can relive those memories later. But don't just put all that money in your general bank account, where it will lose its identify. Use some of that money to specifically buy something else nice that you will enjoy, like a nice new coffee maker or some jewelry for your wife. That way, even though the paintball stuff is gone, the time and money you invested into it will evolve into something else that will bring you more joy in the future.

View my feedback or read about my Virginia woodsball club.

Let me make you something. I build pneumags, auto-response frames, and wooden pill cases.

My wife made a similar recommendation about my extra paintball gear - I'm down to five guns, but have quite a few more woodworking tools (which I use far more often in this phase of life).

Jeff, the inspiration for the dead mans walk...
I seem to remember the kiddos coming to Splatttttttland a time or two. Are they into paintball at all?
I kept markers I thought my kids would eventually like to have, but they strayed from the paintball world and I ended up dumping almost everything when I began downsizing my collection. I kept one unicorn for a bit, then eventually got rid of everything. Figured if I make it to one of Slims classy stock class events there will always be loaners available.

The kids are busy with college. My little one wants to play, but I can't, so that's off the table. I remain optimistic that something the doctors come up with will help me, but with AS, the only hope is to "freeze me in time" so I don't get worse. I guess at this point being frozen in time will leave me mostly immobilized....

Sorry to hear about this. It certainly can be debilitating and hopefully your doctors can work up a plan.

As someone who was diagnosed with AS almost 20 years ago (I'm 44 now... And at this point have lived over half my life with some form of arthritis), what I have found to be most helpful is stretching and as much exercise as I can get... And I should probably do lots more of both. Also reducing stress and improving posture help a.lot too so that when you at rest you are holding your body better.

Good luck with the AS and whatever decision you make with regards to your gear.
