My sister caught a small hammerhead shark off a dock in Florida when we were kids. Does that count? (I'm not sure if sharks are considered fish.)
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

    I'm in!

    Fish story:

I was visiting a fish hatchery in Spearfish, South Dakota while on vacation there. My wife's folks lived 4 hours away from Spearfish at the time. They came up to see us for the day. My wife's mom and I both commented on the "Do not touch the fish" signs. We both were saying "Why can't you touch the fish?" She said I should stick my finger in the water to see if the fish would give a go at my finger. There were loads of good sized fish in the pond. I agreed to do it and when I did it I wish I hadn't. A fish bit my finger and it bled! The teeth on that fish were razor sharp! It's now a story that is brought up often.

    Walzmas giveaway: OG Spyder.

    Another Walzmas giveaway: Pachmayr grips.

When the wife & I took the boys fishing for the first time my younger one had the little kid’s one-piece SpongeBob rod. He was kinda irritated with not having a nicer rod, but he was little so it fit him best. He ended up catching the most fish out of all of us that day with that rod.

I’m not “officially”/clinically working on any self-improvement, but I’ve done a lot of reflecting since Dad passed this year. Been trying hard to slow down, not get worked up over things and just take it one day at a time. Trying to enjoy my time & take in my surroundings. To chill out & be a more relaxed person in general. And I need it after the whirlwind of a year I had. Life is too short to get worked up & stressed out over everything. That’s not how I want to be after pondering my own mortality over the last 3 years.

My first ever customer site visit was at a sturgeon farm (for caviar). Little did I know that that visit was the beginning of a drastic change into a new carrier for me ...
I haven't been there since, but about a month ago they reached out and wanted me to go help them with some issues. I don't know what they saw in me back then, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing ... Poked and probed, swap some parts till it worked, I'm surprised its been working so long 😅

MrKittyCatMeowFace won paintball Island a few years back and was rewarded with fish and chips (a piranha and lays potato chips)

    (Not a current giveaway)

I'm actually working on 2 self improvement things

    1) working towards a better diet, I've put on lbs since becoming a trucker
    2) working with my wife on a better housework balance. She has become very stressed partly from our kids (1 and 4 now) and partly from her job but we both agree we can do better about splitting up the housework so it doesn't seem overwhelming

I was fishing off of a dock with several other people fishing around me when I the largest trout I've ever hooked took my lure and started a fight that must have lasted ten minutes. All the while, the people around me are watching as the fish is putting up one hell of a fight. Mind you, this whole thing is going down on four pound test line and a light powered rod. The drag on my Vanford is absolutely screaming throughout this fight. When I finally get the fish close enough to land I came to the realization that I had made one critical mistake. I forgot the net. The people around me didn't have one either so I had one option considering the elevation of this dock - boat flip it. Sadly, the four pound line I was using wasn't up to the task and it snapped off right as I tried to pull it from the water. I sunk down, crushed. At that moment my wife comes up to see how I'm doing. I tell her I've been better then the guy next to me tells her how it all went down. Well, at least I had witnesses to this fish story. That, and the memory of one hell of a fight.

Nothing better than a fish that likes to fight! I used to do some ocean fishing and would catch the odd long cod and they liked to fight! One entry!

I had a friend that made weedless spinner lures in his basement. They were probably the best I've ever used, but sadly that friend passed a few years back. Haven't been fishing since.

    There are "Creeper" fish

Fish story: One summer in high school my friend and I found a huge dead carp floating by the docks, and we spent some time throwing rocks at it.

I will never forget the distinct, hollow slap that each hit made.

We then went on to whipping rocks into the lake with a hollow tube.

Self improvement: I'm working on getting my CCNA, and I have the worst study habits imaginable. I recently started taking ADHD meds after 10+ years of being diagnosed but un-medicated. It's made a tremendous difference, not only in my ability to focus and learn, but in my day to day life. I feel like I'm actually making progress for the first time in my life.

I was working as a house electrician at sight just next to the Delaware river when this happened.
The whole week was raining non-stop and the river had risen so high that many new creeks and drainage ponds were created. One happened to be behind the house we were working at. Walking in and out of the home I spotted a nice size small mouth bass just chilling in there new back yard lake that wasn't there the week prior which I named Carl.
Carl enjoyed his new scenery for a few days. But as rain turned to sunshine and the days went by their back yard starts to drain and dry out, trapping the poor Carl in an ever shrinking puddle of water.

After seeing Carl struggle in the now two inches of water I walked down to the puddle, picked Carl up and carried him 25yrds across their property and the single road between the home and the river.
And then yeeted Carl as far as I could to launch him over the embankment and back into the river.

I took some joy in yeeting Carl, and watched as he hit the water. Staring at where he was for a few minutes and watching him swim away into the murky shallows of the Delaware river.

I hope Carl is still swimming and maybe I will run into him tubbing the Delaware one day, plus he will have a cool story to tell his fish friends.

Last year I did a walzmas giveaway for rockets.
My partner and I have been working on improving our health more as our new jobs are fairly sedentary where we are working out and eating healthier than before to counteract weight gain and mental fatigue.

As someone who's fished his whole life, had aquariums for 20+ years and worked in aquaculture for over ten years I've got fish stories for days. I'm gonna share one of my favorites for shits and giggles as I don't use semis.

My favorite fishing story was striper fishing with my father. I was reeling in a fish that'd put up a good fight when I noticed a seal coming after it. I started backing up the shore as fast as I could to drag it in. The seal followed up on land and my dad screaming at it. We landed the fish, the seal backed off and our celebration was immediately ruined by a wildlife ranger. She began aggressively breathing my dad about seals being protected, then cut into a bit about how fishing and eating animals is cruel and inhumane. My dad and I immediately reached the same conclusion that we were going to eat that fish to spite her. Unfortunately our portable grill was out of propane so we ate it sashimi style.

I know what you mean about seals. They used to follow the boat and strip your fish right off the line.

    Here's my best fish story.

My mom used to work as a book keeper for a Restaurant/bar/and fish market located at the end of the pier in our town. Sometimes on weekends my brother and I would be stuck out there while she worked. Every once in a while i'd bring my fishing pole and spend the day catching little fish to throw back, hoping to grab a big one to eat. One day i snagged a massive halibut and fought with it for what seemed like 10 minutes. I had finally brought him up to the surface only to have his head break the surface and he dove back down hard dragging line and ultimately breaking my pole in half.
One of the fish mongers who worked in the cleaning room had been taking a smoke break and watched me struggling. He took it upon himself to grab the gaff and see what i had snagged. As i got the fish back to the surface the 2nd time, the line broke.... but the fish monger had been ready and swung the gaff hook into the fish. He hoisted it up to the pier deck and we stood looking at this nice large Halibut. Fish weighed 11 pounds and is still the largest fish i've ever caught.
My Mom heard about the fish and had the owner of the fish market buy it from me for $20. I spent the money on a pizza, soda and video games. I was probably 10 years old when this all happened.

I'm running 2 Walzmas giveaways so far.

And my wife and I started to take up SUP boarding each weekend to get back into shape. Hoping to see a leaner me in 2024 for paintballin'

Many years ago, when I was a kid (actually 60 years ago, when I was 7), my Dad used to take the family to the Chesapeake Bay every summer. My Brother and Sister and I would float around on blow up air mattresses. I had fallen asleep, and floated out too far, when I woke up, I was pretty far away from shore, and not realizing the depth was way longer than me, I tried to roll off the air mattress and stand up in the water. I went down about 20 feet before touching the bottom. I started to drown, until a school of dolphins sensed my distress, they scooped me up and I rode on a dolphin's back and was safely deposited on shore. (it is a fish story, isn't it)?

...and I have a Walzmas Giveaway going also..
